[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Joao de Conde and Maria ?? - Sao Mateus, Graciosa

2014-09-25 Thread Lee
Yes, I do have that one. They are the parents of the Junior Antonio
Lobao who married Maria do Sacramento (whose parents were Joao de Conde and
Dona Maria that I've been searching for) and think I may have found last
night (after your suggestion of narrowing down to births/baptisms with that
specifically say Dona Maria - so far there is only one such couple and they
still only say Dona Maria - no second name - which is literally driving me
batty...lol)

There were at least there couples with the names Joao de Conde and Maria.
I'm making note of everyone of them and then will narrow down from there.

Again, thanks for the suggestion - I don't know why I didn't think of that
- it's going much faster now.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've started looking children with mother
named Dona Maria and so far there is only one couple with matching names.

Still frustrating though! Her name in the baptisms is only given (so
far) as Dona Maria snd no other name so think the s is the couple, but
 still looking.

 Thanks again!

They do have Brazil to Germany for free. I was able to find ship manifests from
Salvador, Bahia, Brazil to Germany for a Conde who married a Swiss businessman.

Although, I agree in general that it is very US centric

[AZORES-Genealogy] Baptismal Record, Nossa Senhora do Amparo, Algarvia, Sao Miguel

2014-09-25 Thread Patricia Straube
According to his marriage record, Manuel Amaral, age 26, native of this
parish, son of Manuel Amaral and Maria Rosa, married Maria Rosa Francisca,
11 Nov 1878 in Nossa Senhora do Amparo, Algarvia, Nordeste, Sao Miguel.
Searching the records for 1852 there was only one person who seemed to fit.

My translation: All and any corrections, welcome

Manuel, legitimate son of Manuel de Amaral and his wife Maria de Medeiros
parishioners of this Chapel Our Lady of Amparo of Lomba de Algarvia (?) of
the Parish Church of the Synod of Sao Pedro of the place of Nordestinho.
Paternal grandson of Francisco de Amaral and Rosa Maria de Sousa born on
the 24th of April eighteen fifty two and was baptized on the 2nd of May of
this year in this Chapel by Candido Muniz Furtado, clergyman. Godparents
Francisco and Lodavina “filhos familias” of Francisco Cabral de Mello and
Maria Jacintha Carvalho. Witnesses Franco de Pimental, sexton of this
Chapel and Francisco da Costa, married, both residents of this Lomba.

Clergyman, Candido Muniz Furtado

Questions:

1. Are the names of the maternal grandparents missing? I can't find them.
Why would this be?

2. Were the godparents literal children or were they merely unmarried and
their parents names used to identify them?

Any other comments also welcome.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Americanized version of Jose Cataeno?

2014-09-25 Thread Mary Pimentel Wheeler
One of my ancestors is Mary Ann Green (born 1870, Providence RI).In
most sources I see that her father and mother were listed as Joe Green and
Mary Green. In another source, I see that her father's name was listed as
Jose Caetano (Birth Abt. 1842 in Fajanzinha, Azores). Is it possible that
Joe Green is simply an Americanized version of Jose Caetano, or am I
chasing a thread that isn't there?? Thanks.

At least you have a starting point now. I can send you the pdf; it is not
a ship manifest. Please send me a private email and I will answer to you.

I'm wondering if you have the correct last name for Vitorino or Antonio.
I never heard Reixelo, if it is correct, it is very uncommon. Do you have
any original document where you read that? Like a passport? Being uncommon,
 it will be easier.

Another question, do you know the destination of Vitorino in Brazil? The
Brazilian cost is huge and Portuguese people had many destinations ports.

I and a couple of my cousins have family trees on Ancestry.com and we
have my grandfather Antonio Reixelo listed. The family you spotted coming
from Hawaii on the S.S. Sonoma is my grandfather and his family; we have
that on our family trees too.

What we don’t have is a ships manifest showing Vitorino de Jesus
Reixelo (Antonio’s brother) who left Porto in or around October 1911 for
Brazil . This manifest is what I am hoping to find. It appears that
Ancestry.com doesn't have this type of ship manifest information, not even
in the card catalog. So I will focus on Brazil and the Brazil links that
 have been so kindly provided.

   Thanks for your research!

searching by surname. However, when I put my family surname in there it
did not show up but I had an idea of the date when she applied and I
 found
it by going through the dates. If you have some idea of the date of
travel, try this avenue also. If all else fails, you can all contact
Arquivo Nacional Torre do Tombo in Lisbon via email *antt.dglab.gov.pt
http://antt.dglab.gov.pt/ *and they will check it out for you for
a fee. You do not have to pay the fee if they do not find it, at least
that is how is was when they searched for me. They found many records,
birth, marriage, death, for me in the past. Now I do that myself on Joao
 Ventura's great etombo site.

I found a family of 8 spelled Reixello, father Antonio, from Portugal
(2 younger children born in Maui) sailing from Hawaii to San Francisco
aboard the S. S. Sonoma Feb. 1919. Maybe they are related? It does not
say where in Portugal they are from. In the 1940 US census the names in
 spelled Rexelle.

In the meantime, I will text my cousin in Brazil and ask him if he can
 find it.

Mary PM,

You'd have to list your sources and what you see on them. Such as, 1900
census, Providence, RI, Joe and Mary Green born Flores, or whatever you are
seeing. Green is verde in Portuguese. I am not aware of any Anglicization
of Caetano.
