Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Avila, Borba, Azevedo, Nunes, Machado from Brazil and Sao Jorge island
I also have ancestors from Sao Jorge. My great grandparents were married in St.Catharina church, Calheta. There used to be a big family reunion in Gustine my grandfather and his siblings used to go to. My grand father was George Silva and his father was Jorge da Silva. Jorge was traveling with cousins who got off in Brazil. He continued on to San Fran. He married Arminda Aurora Luis. Jorge's parents were Joao Faustino da Luz, His wife was Maria Inacia da Silviera. Jorge's three brothers were in Calif eventually. Joao's mother was Isabel Angelica do Coracao de Jesus. No father has been found yet. Arminda Luis parents are as follows Manual Luis Sineiro and Maria Isabel Dias. Manual's father was Luis Jose Fagundes and his wife was Antonia Jaconta. Still researching the lines but I have been told Avila, Bettencourt, Borba, Pimental, and a few others are related. I haven't found the connections and my mother is starting to forget things. If any lines cross drop me a line. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] How many family finder matches do you have?
My Faria line is from Pico traces back to Sao Mateus, Pico in the 1500's the interesting thing is that it traces to a Baltazar Vieira that married a Maria de Faria the son was named Manuel Veira de Faria but after a few generations Vieira was dropped off I should really be a Vieira, go figure. I can't prove it but I believe that Faria line was from Castelo Branco Faial. I trace from another Faria line which I can prove was from Castelo Branco and both familes lived in Sao Roque Pico at one point. But to answer your question completely I'm from California. Not that I know much about the Family Finder or DNA, my families last name is Faria from Sao P edro, Ponta Delgada, Sao Michaels. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] How many family finder matches do you have?
Antonio, It depends. There is one project participant with 1750. There are some with 40. There are people who have a lot more endogamy than others. There are people who are 100% Azorean and people who are not. So your answer is between 40 - 1750 people. I believe it says he died on 30 Jun 1935 in São Pedro, Ponta Delgada.
