I forgot to post the links to the various projects on Family Tree DNA!

EXISITING CUSTOMERS
Log into your FTDNA page and look for the blue UPGRADE button towards the
upper right corner. Order from there.

NEW CUSTOMERS (You have never, ever ordered from FTDNA before).
Azores: https://goo.gl/GCreTM
Madeira: https://goo.gl/Hs2dv9

It looks to me the name is Vin senso? (Vincenzo) Luiz. Looking at the V in
the name Evangelho below, it is a guess at this point. This person passed
away in 1751 but there are no obits in Porto Judeu for this era. Does
anyone know if they exist under another Parish?

2015-11-21 Thread bsei2816
Thank you Margaret. That's a better guess than anything I was coming up
with. I don't understand the math scratch paper in the margin because this
is not a baptism where these computations are usually found. I'm not sure
that he died in 1751 as that would have been his 79th wedding anniversary.
I did look through Porto Judeu baptisms from 1643 to about 1654 for a
Simão to see if I could get a different look at his father's name but came
up empty. Thanks again.

These are my ancestors and this appears to be the first marriage recorded in
Porto Judeu (unless there are older missing books). I can't make out the
groom's father's name.

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-PORTOJUDEU-C-1672-1726/TER-AH-PORTOJUDEU-C-1672-1726_item1/P4.html

What I see is 30 Oct 1672, Simão Martins, son of ??? Luiz and Anna Martins
with Maria Pacheca, daughter of Pedro Gonçcalves and Maria Pacheca,
parishioners of Santo Antonio of Porto Judeu.

Any help to fill in the blank or to correct any mistakes is greatly
appreciated.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Begging for DNA

2015-11-21 Thread lisahbskt via Azores Genealogy
Hi Everyone,

I am sending out holiday cards and want to include a sheet for family members
explaining the DNA, why to test etc. I plan to write a personal note to say
HOW that person testing will benefit the family research, ie: If you were to
test, the results would help sort the Jones DNA from the Brown DNA and narrow
down the matches for each.

Does anyone have something like that? I'm a much better editor than a
writer.

Thanks!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Angra, Terceira - Fernandes

2015-11-21 Thread lisahbskt via Azores Genealogy
Hi,

I have in my possession a postcard of Lajes airport on Terceira. It was
written by Maria Clara Frois Fernandes. There is no postmark date and the
stamp has fallen off. The postcard has no copyright and is definitely older,
looks "colorized"

Maria Clara was apparently the adopted daughter of Maria Adelaide (Azevedo) and
her husband (name unknown at the moment). Maria was born in Ribeirinha, Pico
1873 and our Azevedos moved to Angra.by 1886

Maria Clara mentions her husband (perhaps newly married) Jose Augusto Fernandes
residing at Rue de Garoupinha, 18; Angra do Heroismo, Azores.

Does anyone have these people in the families?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading marriage of Simão Martins to Maria Pacheca, Porto Judeu, 1672

2015-11-21 Thread Margaret Vicente
Following the same rule of the baptisms and because the calculation is made
on this respective marriage record it indicates to me that it had a
beginning (1672) and ending (1751). It lasted 79 years.

At this point we don't know who may have died first but it would be a quick
find were the records for 1751 available.

Good luck.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Translation help

2015-11-21 Thread linda
Hi Moinca,

I read the date as 16 december 1877.

His age appears to be 21 years old, and hers hers, 28 years old.

The bride's mother's name looks like Jacintha de Jesus.

best,

Linda

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading marriage of Simão Martins to Maria Pacheca, Porto Judeu, 1672

2015-11-21 Thread bsei2816
These are my ancestors and this appears to be the first marriage recorded
in Porto Judeu (unless there are older missing books). I can't make out
the groom's father's name.

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-PORTOJUDEU-C-1672-1726/TER-AH-PORTOJUDEU-C-1672-1726_item1/P4.html

Bill Seidler
