[AZORES-Genealogy] Relevant book & website

2016-07-25 Thread Lew White
My family started emigrating from the Azores in the 1870's, finding their
way to Falmouth, Mass where they were one of the founding families for a
local Holy Ghost Society. My interest in family genealogy made me curious
about why they emigrated at all and why they ended up in Falmouth. It led
to a book I self-published in 2012 that may be of interest to some of this
group because of its unorthodox perspectives. Of more interest, perhaps is
a collection of turn of the century (19th/20th) postcards on my website
amerazor.com.

[AZORES-Genealogy] FTDNA glitch on Gedcoms on the Family Finder Matches

2016-07-25 Thread Cheri Mello
When logging into your Family Finder matches, and seeing the blue
Gedcom/tree icon light up, some of you are finding no tree uploaded. It had
not been reported and today (Monday) it was passed on to IT.

So, when you find a glitch, either report it to FTDNA or report it to me. I
need to be able to duplicate the error so I.T. can see it. I take screen
shots and draw on them so they "see" it.

There is no time line yet as to when this will be addressed.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help with Baptism - Sao Mateus, Terceira

2016-07-25 Thread Philippe GARNIER
Excellent Lee, you have found the Maria do Carmo grandparents. She has not
godparents because was baptized at home. It's not the rule, but it's
frequent.

There is no mariage of José Simois and Maria Jaquina in S. Mateus. Not also
in the 4 parishes of Angra. You need to find the Josefa Joaquina batism in
S. Mateus (native of S. Mateus, in Maria's batism). With a little chance
(and you have yet a lot of), the origin of the parents is mentionned.
Perhaps they are from another island. Because, no mariage found before 1800
is rarely.
To the batism date, you suppose the Maria's mother was 14-15 years old.
It's possible, but would be exceptional in the Terceira Island before 1850.
She was more probably 20 years or more.
Good chance

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Santo Espirito marriage 1711

2016-07-25 Thread Ângela Loura
Hi,

I tried to pause my research on Antonio, but i'm really upset about this
and can't stop thinking about it.

The records of that period are ruined, so even if there was a note in the
side margin with the claim we'll never know.

Here's how he is mentioned in the records:

   - 05-10-*1711* (his marriage): *Antonio de Resendes*

   - 19-08-*1768*: (his wife Maria's death record):* Antonio de Resendes
   Loyra*
   - 04-03-*1769* (his death record): *Antonio de Resendes Loura*

*natural da Parochial do Apostolo Sam Pedro*

So, according to these notes:
- Antonio only appears in the records using the last name Loura in by his
late life (+- 1768),
- while at least on of his children, José (i haven't found Maria's marriage
record yet) was already using the last name Loura at the time of his own
wedding (1749)

I even considered that, since his death record reffers that he is natural
de São Pedro, maybe there was a document in the São Pedro books with
someone claiming to be his parents, but unfortunately only Santa Barbara
has these type of records in Santa Maria.

Every once in a while i wish i could solve this mistery...

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: João Botelho married to Jacinta Cândida

2016-07-25 Thread Sandra K
Hello,
In doing my family genealogy, I have recently come across the marriage
record where the brides' parents are John Botelho and Jacintha Candida.

The record is Sao Miguel, Ponta Delgada, Sao Jose, casamentos -
1874, Pg 13, #20.The groom is Manoel Correia - the bride is Maria da
Nascimento.

I hope this is helpful. I do not speak Portuguese, but I've learned a
lot from reading these posts and seem to get along quite well now.
Regards, Sandra

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Lourenço Antonio Bonito Viera married to Ana Julia Linhares

2016-07-25 Thread JR
That's all I have. They are from Ribeira Quente. You have to investigate
your info to see if it is accurate. The later Linhares of Sao Miguel, as
far I know, are all from Ribeira Quente. This is research done mostly by
Shirley Allegre, Cheri Mello and Richard Matera.

If your info is accurate, you may want see if they temporarily lived in
Ponta Delgada before emigrating to the USA. Check the usual sources, ship
lists, passenger lists, etc.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: João Botelho married to Jacinta Cândida

2016-07-25 Thread brownat68
I see what you mean: Manuel Lourenço Bonito, 22, *worker*, *native of
Ribeira Quente* and *living in São José*, Ponta Delgada, legitimate son of
Luis Lourenço bonito and Jacinta Cândida, etc...

I need to look in San Jose for João Botelho married to Jacinta Cândida.

Thanks everyone. Any other information let me know.
