Susan, yes he died in Newark is buried at Holy Ghost Cemetery. Early Census list as Washington Township. They owned a saloon and stables. From what I was told it later became The Foxy Lady or something like that lol. Kellie Crnkovich -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Azores Genealogy" group. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Finally found names
Hi Kellie, I grew up in Centerville and so was trying to make this out. I see the doctor was from Centerville and he was buried there. Botelho was the undertaker that buried many of my family. I never had any luck trying to get undertaker records. Where do you think he lived... I can't make that out and there are not many choices for towns:) It almost looks like Newark in the second space? [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Family Tree programs
Hi Maggie, I had a similar problem when I did not upgrade my old FTM and the new version was recently introduced a few months back. I chose to purchase the "upgrade" to FTM 2017. I then downloaded my tree(s) as a Gedcom file to my desktop. You can then upload the Gedcom file into the new FTM program. I would imagine the same process would work with other software programs, as well. Yes Manuel is my grandfathers brother so Manuel Sr's son. Census records showed birth as July 1846 given by Manuel himself so it should be around that date and good place to start if not there will look for years around. I would guess mother will be Maria not Mary. At least I have some more info to go on hopefully I find it. I am going through records now. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Finally found names
Kellie, Just so you know, the death certificate is a primary source for the death only. A primary source is issued at the time of the event. In this case, the death. So you'd be just about 100% certain he died on that date at that location. Everything else on that death is a secondary source. Those are facts that are stated after the event. In this case, the birth date and location that are stated happened at a different time than the death. The other thing you need to ask yourself is WHO said it, WHEN did they say it, and HOW did they know? The informant is a Manuel Silva. Is this a son of the deceased? That answers the WHO. He's saying this information at the time of his father's death - how upset was he when providing the information? (The WHEN). And lastly, did the informant know his grandparents? HOW did he know who the parents of the descendant are? Or is that his best guess? The same goes for the birth date - they may not have celebrated birthdays like we do now, so again, that may be his best guess. So go ahead and try the stated birth date, but keep an open mind that the date *might* be a guess.
