[AZORES-Genealogy] DNA Testing differences

2018-12-03 Thread M. Stringer
I did go ahead and upload the Ancestry results to My Heritage. Received
the results today, and there are some interesting differences.

There was no problem with the upload process for a 2nd/subsequent set of
results.

This time, followed the instructions for Ancestry instead of FTDNA. Said
they were for me.

Each set of results shows under my profile, and I can select viewing by
either one of them.

FTDNA

Family Finder 1,066 matches

Ancestry ? matches (have never found the information on
the site)

My Heritage uploads from

FTDNA 2,927 matches, 12 ethnicities

Ancestry 1,876 matches, 10 ethnicities

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Fall River obituaries - searching 1980

2018-12-03 Thread Cheri Mello
Andrea Demelo,

Your DNA is done processing at FTDNA. You can view your matches now. I'm
one of the Azores DNA Project Admin's over there.

Yes, it's good to go DNA fishing in other ponds (companies). It's how you
find more cousins.

You and Altino should be 1C2R (1st cousins 2x removed) if you are talking
about the same ancestor (Diogenes). The DNA fits better with some type of
2nd cousin (2C1R or 2C2R) according to the amount of shared centiMorgans
(cMs) and longest block. Altino's DNA seems to be rather fragmented to me
(he's like chopped liver to me)! I'm related on his Mel(l)o side and I have
the same problem over there as well. (Properly, it seems that Altino's DNA
has had a higher rate of crossovers than the average).

2018-12-03 Thread Andrea d
Hi All,

So excited to have found this group! I just found out that I had a match
for an Altino de Melo via Gedmatch.com and then found his name here in this
group.

*Altino* - the man you're looking for may be my grandfather. His name was
Manuel da Silva Diogenes. I believe his father's name was Manuel da Silva
(Senior) from São Miguel, but not sure which area of the island. He settled
in the Massachusetts, Rhode Island area in the 60s with his family. Before
coming to the US they lived in Ginetes off of Rua da Canada.

>From my research, there seems to be another Manuel Diogenes out there in
the Fall River, MA as well. However, he passed in the 80s. My grandfather
passed in 2005. I don't think the man you mentioned in your original post
is my grandfather, however, there must be some type of connection because
of the DNA info. I would be happy to learn more about my grandfather's
side, especially since I have no information from his side.

Thanks!

[AZORES-Genealogy] My Heritage DNA Transfers Extended Until Sunday, December 16th, 2018

2018-12-03 Thread Cheri Mello
(Cross posted to Azores, Madeira, and Island Routes lists)

Thanks to Ally Chacon for sharing. Information taken from My Heritage's
blog below:

Free DNA Uploads — Deadline Extended!

   - By Esther ·
   - December 1, 2018
   - · DNA

Ever since MyHeritage began offering DNA services, we have provided our
users the ability to upload their DNA data for free . These users then
received DNA Matches and ethnicity estimates on MyHeritage for free, a
unique benefit not offered by any of the other major companies.

We have just extended our deadline for free DNA uploads to December 16,
2018. As of this date, our policy regarding DNA uploads will change. DNA
Matching will remain free for uploaded DNA data, but unlocking additional
DNA features will require an extra payment for DNA results uploaded after
this date.

Upload your DNA data for free

All DNA data that was uploaded to MyHeritage in the past, and all DNA data
that is uploaded now and prior to December 16, 2018, will continue to enjoy
full access to all DNA features for free. These uploads will be
grandfathered in and will remain free.

Viewing family trees of your DNA Matches or accessing the 9 billion
historical records that are found on MyHeritage is optional and requires a
paid subscription plan. Some advanced features in the DNA Match review will
also require a subscription, such as viewing matches and ethnicities that
you share with your DNA Matches.

You can upload DNA data from Ancestry, Family Tree DNA’s Family Finder
test, 23andMe (any versions including v5) or Living DNA. Instructions for
exporting your data and uploading it to MyHeritage are provided on our
upload page.

Don’t delay uploading your DNA data to MyHeritage now
,
while all DNA features are free (and they will remain free for you).
