[AZORES-Genealogy] Ethnicity is Just an Estimate - good article/blog

Roberta Estes, of DNA Explained, wrote about ethnicity estimates, complete
with maps and map overlays (I had fun playing with that too!) Here is her
article and it's not too long (for it being Roberta): https://goo.gl/qL5MqZ

It was Joao Brum Santos Macedo, which is the name shown as father on my
grandfather's birth record. The change was to Joao Brum. The Santos was not
used by his ancestors but was for at least 2 of his children. Now I'm
wondering if that note is on all his children's records. Always something more
to do!

This is the first time I have seen this. It is possible that the priest made a
mistake when writing that record and changed the father's name. Later he needed
to mend this and went to Court.

An example: my paternal grandmother is Emília Cândida Gaspar. On my father's
birth record his mother is listed as Maria da Conceição, who actually is his
paternal grandmother. If this would be an issue, we would need to mend his
birth record.

Since his father died in 1921, any clue as to why they would have changed his
name 22 years later?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Name Change

2018-12-30 Thread Liz Migliori
Funny, my mothers last name was Santa. They put Santos on her birth so I had
it changed to Santa. I can’t find where it started for sure because it was a
nickname. No Santa Portuguese. Last name was supposed to be Silveira
