[AZORES-Genealogy] Roadblocks in my tree (Cordeiro, Dias, Sequeira) Sao Jorge, Graciosa, maybe Pico

2019-05-21 Thread Analytic Advantage
Hey all,

After 4 years of working on my tree, I've hit some major roadblocks. Is it
worth hiring a genealogist? My Portuguese is terrible and I live in Mexico.

These are the spots I'm stuck. ANY information is eagerly accepted.

1.

Antonio Jose Cordeiro, Matriz Graciosa (my
great-great-great-great-grandfather)
Wife I: Unknown
Wife II: Unknown
Son: Francisco Jose Baptista Cordeiro (1828 - 1887) with first wife,
Francisco wife: Maria Isabel Cordeiro. They end up in Urzelina (SJ) in
1852 ish
Profession: Carpenter

2.

Joao Severino Sequiera & Maria Severino da Mota Sequeira
Born Almagreira,

 Santa
Maria
Daughter: Zulmira Bernardete (Married name Cordeiro), born 1892 in Urzelina

I have Zulmiras children and descendants but anything about her parents,
siblings, aunts, uncles...anything really

3.

Maria De Lordes Dias
Born 1895, Urzelina (I'm not sure if this is correct)
Parents: Manuel Jorge Dias and Josefina Dias, unknown birthplace (probably
sao jorge, graciosa or Pico).

I would also gladly welcome any old photos of Urzelina, the people that
lived there .. really anything. I've been able to locate ancestors etc in
group ohotos, so you never know.

Thanks!!

2019-05-21 Thread Cheri Mello
Hi Analytic (??),

This is a do-it-yourself group, where we help each other out. Many of us
had to learn how to translate (well, bumble our way) through the records
and many of us have become quite proficient and can help others now.

The how to do it yourself is here on the Azores. You want chapter 3a:
http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/research-aids-a---l/finding-your-portuguese/
I'd go through Tombo.pt to navigate the Azorean vital records site (Centro
de Conhecimento dos Acores or CCA). tombo.pt. Click the British flag in the
upper right corner if you need to navigate in English.

If you are not interested in doing it yourself, you can hire a researcher.
That is your decision to make. You have the names, dates, and places, which
are the 3 key pieces that they need. The Azores GenWeb also has a list of
researchers for hire:
http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/researchers-available-for.html

Good luck,
Cheri Mello

I checked the Sao Jorge Marriage Index and found the marriage for Joao
Severino de Sequeira and Maria Severina da Mota on 20 May 1880 Image #5 in
Urzelina. Go to Tombo.pt and navigate the Azores, Sao Jorge, Urzelina and
you will find Joao & Maria's marriage with parents listed.

 Hey all,

After 4 years of working on my tree, I've hit some major roadblocks.
Is it worth hiring a genealogist? My Portuguese is terrible and I live in
 Mexico.

These are the spots I'm stuck. ANY information is eagerly accepted.

 1.

Antonio Jose Cordeiro, Matriz Graciosa (my
 great-great-great-great-grandfather)
 Wife I: Unknown
 Wife II: Unknown
Son: Francisco Jose Baptista Cordeiro (1828 - 1887) with first wife,
Francisco wife: Maria Isabel Cordeiro. They end up in Urzelina (SJ) in
 1852 ish
 Profession: Carpenter

 2.

Joao Severino Sequiera & Maria Severino da Mota Sequeira
 Born Almagreira,

  Santa
 Maria
Daughter: Zulmira Bernardete (Married name Cordeiro), born 1892 in
 Urzelina

I have Zulmiras children and descendants but anything about her
 parents, siblings, aunts, uncles...anything really

 3.

 Maria De Lordes Dias
Born 1895, Urzelina (I'm not sure if this is correct)
Parents: Manuel Jorge Dias and Josefina Dias, unknown birthplace
(probably sao jorge, graciosa or Pico).

I would also gladly welcome any old photos of Urzelina, the people that
lived there .. really anything. I've been able to locate ancestors etc in
group ohotos, so you never know.

 Thanks!!

2019-05-21 Thread Rosemarie Capodicci
Well, it gives you places to start. The Pico site can be searched in
English, just click on the British flag on the search page. The Azores docs
are in Portuguese but they follow a pattern. Go to the AzoresGenWeb site
here: http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/ and use the resources to learn how
to use the church records.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Roadblocks in my tree (Cordeiro, Dias, Sequeira) Sao Jorge, Graciosa, maybe Pico

2019-05-21 Thread William Seidler
Hello,

Antonio's first wife is Antonia de Jesus and she is your ancestor (mother
of Francisco). She died 10 Sep 1833 and Antonio married at least once more
after that. Here is their marriage:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/GRA-SC-SAOMATEUS-C-1808-1825/GRA-SC-SAOMATEUS-C-1808-1825_item1/P81.html

Do you have a source for Francisco José Cordeiro dying in 1887? On Maria
Isabel's obit in 1901 it says she is married to him.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Roadblocks in my tree (Cordeiro, Dias, Sequeira) Sao Jorge, Graciosa, maybe Pico

2019-05-21 Thread William Seidler
I just checked Zulmira's baptism which says her father is natural of
Almagreira, Ilha do Pico (Not Santa Maria). This agrees with the marriage
that Rosemarie found because Almagreira is a locality within the parish of
Lajes. This is different than the Almagreira on Santa Maria which is a
parish.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Have I found my great grandfather?

2019-05-21 Thread Carl DeAmaral

My great grandfather (immigrant) was Jacinto Leite De Amaral. I have 2
different birth dates for him both in 1855, and indications point to Sao
Miguel.

Today I find this baptism, but I am really struggling to read it. The
format is a lot different than most I have looked at and a lot of different
names appear. It is also 1854, but hey, close.

MG-PV-MAEDEDEUS-B-1853-1855_item1/P137.html

I continue on for some more pages and I see this one for a Maria (right
page). I don't have any reason to be looking at hers except I see in the
names a lot of Amarals, and even Jacintho de/do Amaral

can someone with keener eyes and translations skills help me figure out
what is going on here? Am I on the right track finally? possibly?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

2019-05-21 Thread Cheri Mello
Hi Carl,

You've gone into the 2nd time period so the format changes.

Do you have Jacinto's parents' names now? Why are you looking in Povoacao?
Your DNA is matching people from Ribeira Quente. I'm just curious as to why
you now know your immigrant came from Povoacao instead. You must have done
more research.

Thanks, Cheri

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Have I found my great grandfather?

2019-05-21 Thread Carl DeAmaral
Hi Cheri,

Still poking around at this point. My project at work has kept my nose out of
my Genealogy studies for the most part recently.

I got a little respite tonight and was browsing the tree of a match on ftdna.
I'll have to look up the member. But they had quite a few Amaral's & variants
showing birth in provacao. I was able to find one of them in this parish
records (1872), so I went back to 1854 and found these.

I see that provacao is geographically close to RQ, so I thought I would take a
look. Do you see any significant matches for me in this area?
