Hi Lucy,
For the 1920s, you need to write to the respective Civil Registry with the
name, place, and exact date.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Baptismal records after 1900

2019-07-14 Thread Lucy Amaral-Nunes
Hello everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone knows how to access newer baptismal records
(specifically 1900 onward)? I can get the records up to that point online, but
I need to examine some baptismal/marriage records for the 1920s. Any input?

Thanks in advance!

Lucy

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Obit margin help Joam Pimentel quemado

2019-07-14 Thread William Seidler
Here is the second marriage of the same João Pimentel. This one says he is
natural of São Pedro, Ponta Delagda, Flores, just as you had indicated.
Either I misread the birthplace in his obit or the priest was mistaken.

Janet,
Queimado means burnt, sunburnt, tanned so maybe it's his alcunha
(nickname). Perhaps he was out in the sun a lot and was very tanned.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Obit margin help Joam Pimentel quemado

2019-07-14 Thread William Seidler
The margin note looks like it might be dos Ramos (written mor like raMos).
Was he born near a Palm Sunday? In the text though it does say queimado
just as you said other records give. I believe he is 54 years old (more or
less) and it say he is natural and resident of this parish of Nossa Senhora
dos Remidios in Fajazinha. I can't make everything out but I think on line
6 it gives his testementeiro (executor of his will or estate?) his wife
Mariana de Freitas and later makes reference to something for the soul of
his first wife Anna de Freitas.

Hopefully this helps and that someone better corrects any mistakes I may
have made.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] New Question re: Searching Passportes

2019-07-14 Thread jomig...@sbcglobal.net
Thank you, Margaret,

Yes, I did mean Passenger #369 - my input of #309 was a typo. Thank you
for your sharp eye in noticing his brother Manuel as #370. Originally I
was not aware the wife's name and age were shown on the same line.

The column that states Occupation (re: Passport list 1882) I cannot make
out the letters to arrive at the Portuguese word for their occupations, so
that I can translate from there. I would appreciate any help from anyone
who can.

Thanks to all,
Josephine

Hello all,
Could anyone assist with this Obit record - specifically what is written in the
margin under Joam Pimentel? His name in other records is usually Joam Pimentel
quemado and quemado is never capitalized - does that signify anything?
Additionally can someone confirm he was born in Flores, church of S Pedro (in
agreement with other records)? Finally who is Anna de Freitas mentioned
towards the bottom?
