Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Living DNA - A new DNA company

2017-06-15 Thread 'Lisa' via Azores Genealogy
I purchased one of their kits (for myself) at Jamboree. I read the article
yesterday and it does raise concerns. However, I only want to test with them
for clues on my U.K. origins which go back to 1700's. I don't plan to download
data (I can do that from FTDNA). My takeaway from the article was to beware of
downloading/sharing information from them and the origins data is evolving
(exactly what they said at Jamboree) and to be used as clues. To be fair to
them, they said repeatedly that their German data is weak at this time and they
are working on improving that (Portuguese too, when I asked).

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] New Ethnicity Estimates for Family Tree DNA

2017-04-05 Thread 'Lisa' via Azores Genealogy
Oh wait. My father's family forever is from Azores. No Portuguese on my
mother's side at all. 64%? So I checked my uncle's results (father's brother,
completely Portuguese) and his new results show 51% Iberia.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Planning: Portuguese Genealogy Conference, Salt Lake City

2017-02-03 Thread 'Lisa' via Azores Genealogy
My selfish whiny answer is no! I have to ask for vacation time in September
for the entire following year; I don't have vacation at that time and it's
unlikely I could make it. I already planned on taking Easter week next year
for the conference (only allowed to ask for that week every other year) so had
to forgo other vacation options Easter week this year to attend the conference
next year. I don't think it's "too close" to the last one; I don't know if I
can work it out to attend in August. Thank you to both you and Rosemarie for
all the planning and work you put into the conferences; it is really
appreciated!

On a brighter note, I'm off to the FHL and RootsTech on Monday. And I was
planning on seeing you at SCGS Jamboree.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] St Joseph's Church,. C;arksburg, Yolo County, California

2014-12-29 Thread 'Lisa' via Azores Genealogy
I also have family that was active in that church and it is nearly impossible
to get a look at records because they are "private". After much persistence &
groveling in person, I was allowed to view an index of baptisms and found my
grandmother and her siblings. I had been told there were no records for the
family. The county record of my great grandparents' marriage states they were
married at the church with the accurate name of the priest at that time but the
church repeatedly tells me they have no record of the marriage. Why are they
being so secretive & difficult?
