Cheryl
Your family lived next to mine. My great aunt and uncle, Honorio Pachaco
and Lucinda Isabell Arruda lived at 52 Ottawa. My aunt Mary and uncle
Nordie Silva (brother and sister) lived with them. I remember meeting your
great grandmother Alice when I was a little girl. The one I'm most
familiar with was the daughter Alice Gonzales and her daughters Darlene and
Lindy. I used to call them once or twice a year and mail letters. About
2-3 years ago phone was disconnected and my letter came back. At time my
family was all gone. Alice and the girls were great to my and uncle.

My aunt Mary was terrible about throwing food out. Alice would yell fresh
coffee when she would hear my voice in cellar. She was a great cook.

Thank you Rosemarie. I did download your stuff. This group is great. I
use Cape Verde DNA for my grandfathers side of the family. Azores genealogy
doesn't cover Brava, Cape Verde.

I didn't know what "Exposto" was. This is what my friend wrote for anyone
else that didn't know.

In the old days they had a place where people could leave an unwanted
child. They could be run by the government, convents, charities, etc. There
was a hole in the wall on a rotating contraption with a baby basket, you
would put the baby in it & rotate so it would go inside & then cared for.
The word "exposto" literally means "exposed" but in this context means,
let's say, abandoned.

Ok, back to the records again. Here is where I got the name Manuel Arruba
for her father's name. This was on the same line as her name in ship log.
She is listed as Lucinda Pachaco Averio and her friend that she is coming
to is Honerio Pacheco Averio (my uncle) It is the first line. Maybe you
might come up with a different name. This was on ancestry.

like it could be Averio for the name. Then I think it is the parents

Manuel Arruda. My uncle was Hnorio Pachaco Averio. His parents were Manuel

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Great Grandparents

2017-02-16 Thread Cheryle Dougherty
Sorry noticed the spelling. Alice's family owned the house from at least
the 1930's. They had 15 kids in their family. My aunt and uncle went to
live with their godparents who were Hnorio and Lucinda Pacheco. My aunt
said she went to visit when she was young and wouldn't go home. She liked
it because there weren't any kids and she was treated like a princess. She
told me their children died in the Azores before they came to the US. My
uncle ended up there when he was a baby and never left.

2017-02-16 Thread Cheryle Dougherty
Thank you. My grandmother Francelina came over to the states to marry my
grandfather, Jose Joao Silva. He was from Cape Verde. She came over in
1909 and got married in Providence, RI. The two brothers I had for my
grandmother were Hnorio Pachaco and Evaristo P Averio. They both lived in
Attleborro, MA. They lived on Ottawa and Linden. My mom's brother was
Anorio. We called him Uncle Nautie. I think Hnorio is Henerio. The birth
year is about right. As far as I know the parents never came to the
states. I will load the gedcom to roots magic when I get it.
Thank you

Rick, I think this must be them. Do you have a tree on ancestry. Maybe I
might recognize some of the names. They had two sons that settled in
Attleborro, MA. Hnorio Pacheco (married to a Lucinda in the Azores) and
Evaristo P Averio (married two sisters in US. Lidoina and Christina Sousa)

[AZORES-Genealogy] Great Grandparents

2017-02-07 Thread Cheryle Dougherty
I was wondering if anyone recognized any of the people on my grandmothers
baptism certificate.

March 1889 • Sao Miguel, Riberia Grande, Ribeirinha, Azores, Portugual :
Francelina deJesus Pavao
Church records Diocese of Augra Ribeirinha (town) Ribeira Grande

Manuel Pacheco Aveiro(?) farmer from this parish and of Philomena de Jesus
Pavão from St. Maria island of this diocese, where they married, residents
in Rua do Porto (Port St.) paternal granddaughter of Manuel Pacheco &
Antonia de Jesus Rebelo and maternal of Antonio do Rego Pavão & Florinda de
Jesus. Godparents were Manuel Cabral Botelho, shopkeeper, & his wife Maria
da Luz Ferreira whom I know they are themselves.
