[AZORES-Genealogy] mtDNA test name labels

2015-01-08 Thread Ginny Swinson
I have just completed my first mtDNA test for my mother - age 95. I'm not
sure that I used the proper name on the submission. I used her married name
with maiden name in parenthesis.
This does not reflect her Azorean heritage since each time there is a
marriage the woman's name changes. When I look at the results in the Azores
project I'm not sure what if reflected in the results list (names). Are
these marriage, maiden or most distant ancestor? I'd like to make any
necessary corrections. Thanks for any help.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Searching Madruga, Cardoza - Azores

2013-02-03 Thread Ginny Swinson
I have been following your group for several months and am amazed at how so
many of you have been able to locate where you ancestors came from. I have
been researching intermittently for 50 years and have had little success.
My great-grandparents, *Manuel Perry Madruga* (b. about February 15, 1852,
Azores) married *Phillipa Perry Cardoza*, (b. about August 25, 1865,
Azores) in St Ann's church, Gloucester, MA, April 18, 1883. They had six
children: Mary, March 9, 1889; Willie P.,September 26, 1890; John Perry (my
ggrandfather) December 6, 1892; Gertrude, August 10, 1896; Manuel Perry,
October 8, 1899. All were born in Gloucester. I have been unable to get
baptismal records because the church says that their records are with the
Boston Archdiocese. I spent eight hours at their archives and there are no
records there. They arrived before Ellis Island. I can find no
naturalization papers for them in Gloucester. All birth and death records
indicate only Azores. I am getting old and would like to visit the village
where they came from and to finally connect with my Portugese heritage. My
grandfather died in the 1918 epidemic and so any connection to the past
wast lost. PLEASE - anyone - *HELP*. I need advice and direction.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Silva, Viera, Silveira in Gloucester, Massachusetts

2012-11-21 Thread Ginny Swinson
Vivian,
I have Silva great grandparents from Gloucester. Many genealogical records
are available on line from the city of Gloucester. Go to their web page,
click on departments, then archives where you can do a vital records
search. Good luck! Enjoy!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Silva, Viera, Silveira in Gloucester, Massachusetts

2012-11-21 Thread Ginny Swinson
Carol,
I am looking for Manual Perry Madruga, born Azores about 1852, father
Manuel M. and mother Mary "Joseph". Don't know when or how he came to
America, when or how he got here. Married Phillipa Perry, April 18, 1883 in
Gloucester. She was born Azores, about 1862, father John, mother Mary
"Tracy". Most references to the Portugese in the Gloucester records say
Great Western Islands, no villages. Any suggestions?

2012-11-20 Thread Ginny Swinson
I am trying to research my ancestors from Pico and Fial, Madrugas from
Pico?? and Silva's from Fial. My grandmother. Annie Jossephine Silva was
born in Gloucester July 5, 1896. Her mother was Mary E. Figuerado (also
known as Mary Figaret on her birth certificate) and her father was Manuel
S. Silva. Manuel Silver was born August 19, 1860. Manuel's parents were
Manuel and Anna (Hanna "Mosianna") both born Azores.
