Maragaret, Maria do Carmo was supposed to have died and Joao dos Santos Botelho remarried. I cannot find her death or his remarriage. They had daughter, Maria Augusta Cabral, who ended up in Brazil. She was the great-grandmother of my DNA match in Brazil. The story is Maria do Carmo died when Maria Augusta was a child and she did not like her step-mother who was a cousin of her father. Margaret, #1938 Philomena Clementina Cabral was Maria Augusta's aunt and godmother. She married #1937 Manoel Martins Morte son of Jose Martins Morte and Roza Julia. If I am reading this correctly, Philomena and Manoel had two children, Jose and Maria. I also see #1941 Maria de Jesus (cunhada) to Francisco Joaquim Cabral. Maria Augusta was born in 1882. She would have been 14 yrs. old 1896. I don't see her name. Was she already in Brazil or were they preparing arrangements for her to come? Hi Sandra, You got it right...except the child Maria, the name is Alzira. I always remember the saying "where there is smoke, there is fire". Maria Augusta is not in this page. You will have to go through the passport records with a fine tooth comb. There numerous possibility but I'm looking at two scenarios. 1) Since her family doesn't show up in Agua de Pau having more children or by her mother's death record. It is possible they left for Brasil early 1880's after her birth or, 2) She left on her own in the company of another relative or neighbour. You may have to check from 1881 to 1896. By my calculations based on her age at marriage plus two children 3 years old and 10 months. This places her in Brasil in 1896/1895 at about 15/14 years of age. Without this proof I don't think you can tie in to the Agua de Pau records. Her mother's name is Senhorinha and I haven't seen it in this specific parish for the Cabral surname. Margaret, I was reading the passport wrong. Maria de Jesus was not the cunhada to Francisco Joaquim Cabral. She was his daughter and cunhada to Manoel Martins Morte. I searched and found another Maria born to Francisco Joaquim Cabral in 1874. She would have been 22 yrs old by 1896. The same age as Maria de Jesus on the passport. Maria Augusta's mother, Maria do Carmo Cabral, was not dead when this new Maria was born because she did not have Maria Augusta until 1882. If I remember correctly, Alexandre (my match) thought Maria Augusta may have went to Brazil in 1895. I am waiting for a response from him.
