Correcting myself here.  It is Neto.

The marriage of caetano Neto de Mendonca and Catherina Novais can be found at 
Guadaupe casamentos 1717-1742, image number 0038, right side, middle.

His name can be clearly seen on line 10

Agree it to be Caetano Netto (Neto) de Mendonca!

You can confirm the Neto by looking at the witness signature "Joao Netto"
at the bottom of the record.

Boy that's a tough one! It's de Mendonca. Hopefully someone
familier with that village will be able to figure it out. Otherwise, you
will have to try and find other children born to this couple and hope it is
more clear!
