with Graciosa. It could be Ares, or Aries, which is a name more well known.

after) and Maria Fernandez?? it looks like it starts with an "F". The bride
and groom are native of Nossa Senhora da Luz, this island. Not sure about
the rest, perhaps someone familier with the village?

Jesus? Francisca dated February 25, 1732.

 My question is regarding the wording at the end of the record - (right 
side, bottom)

"Maria de Avila (Anna's mother) defunta morador - ao/so? Bayrro? nal 
freguza  desta dita? Matriz  and Luz? recibucam? as Bebcies dos Maedre 
Igreja and paconta fafo?.."

I know some of the above means natural of fregusia of and then I'm confused.

Many times we encounter a name or spelling variation we are not familiar 
with, but because we know what the name is, we ignore the variation or its 
different appearance. So the best we can do is show a spelling variation or 
error. I should know better. So this name may even be "de Avila" in a very 
compressed jumbled form, so that you only see Avi, because the priest tried 
to fit the wording in. And if Lee knows that Avila is in his lineage, then 
that's what it likely is.

My bad Sir...I meant to type de Avis, and typed Avila.  Didn't realize it until 
pointed it out.

I'm looking at earlier records in Santa Cruz and I'm seeing the name spelled as 
Davis or d'avis.
