As far I know, all Roiz are short for Rodrigues. Be careful though, because there are names like Ruiz, which are not the same. I noticed when the church rewrote all very early 1600's books from Vila Franca, Sao Pedro, all the Roiz became Rodrigues. Some make it obvious with what looks like a large apostrophe after the Z in Roiz, and this is clearly short for Rodrigues. But others make no notation and the name is still Rodrigues.
