Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: 1674 Rodrigues Obito - Flamengos. Faial
Thank you so much everyone for your thoughts and help. Does not sound like this is the child I am looking for. I wish they included more info in these old records. So hard to know if who you are finding is family or not! Sorry I was so slow in responding. Got caught up with issues here at home but am back at this again now!! Thanks again for your help. Susan it is viúva (veuva - old portuguese spelling). eliseu -Mensagem original- De: 'Susan Murphy' via Azores Genealogy [mailto:azores@googlegroups.com] Enviada: 26 de maio de 2016 05:04 Para: azores@googlegroups.com Assunto: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: 1674 Rodrigues Obito - Flamengos. it's subtle, but if one looks at the word in the context of the whole entry, it it appears to me that it is almost surely viuva, spelled "veuva". The priest makes his "n" compressed and with with a little serif. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: 1674 Rodrigues Obito - Flamengos. Faial
It sure is not viúva - the word nenna seems like a spanish word nena for querida but maybe it was a nickname for Maria although it`s not starting with a capital N. The curious thing is that all those registers say where each body is burried in the cemetery: Near the south entrance, next to the main entrace, etc Em segunda-feira, 23 de maio de 2016 02:22:41 UTC-3, 2si...@gmail.com escreveu: > > Hello Everyone, > > I am looking for an obito for Maria, the illegitimate child of Agada > Rodrigues, who was born in 1670. I also think it says viuva, so wouldn't be a four-year-old girl. I did not know they did not record obits for children during this era; but I'll keep this in mind. Looking around, it seems there aren't any that appear to be children. Ages are not given, but in later centuries it seemed to me that children usually didn't have a surname (I could be wrong about this). All of these obits do have surnames.
