[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Abreviaturas Paleografias Portuguesas by Borges Nunes

2017-02-14 Thread linda

Hi All,

I successfully received my copy of the book yesterday. I ordered it on
January 15th, and the post office attempted to deliver it on the 8th
(signature required, but I wasn't home). It was well wrapped and arrived
in excellent condition. It's a little smaller than I imagined it would be,
measuring about 5.5"x8", but at 1/4", it's thicker too. I'm very pleased
with the purchase, and I hope that everyone who took the chance to order it
is as satisfied as I am.

I'd also like to remind everyone that the Portuguese paleography booklet
available from FamilySearch.org is an excellent companion to the Borges
Nunes book and provides some of the introductory information that BN
doesn't. The Borges book is much more comprehensive in its scope, though,
so I think they work very well together.

The FamilySearch booklet is available to download here:

https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE3444979

fingers crossed that all the book deliveries go well,

:)

Linda

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Abreviaturas Paleografias Portuguesas by Borges Nunes

2017-02-11 Thread linda

Hi Maria Elena,

The link is in this thread:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/azores/abreviaturas%7Csort:relevance/azores/KDZmlWFbuPQ/IBkVEGuiCAAJ

While I hope I'm wrong, the pdf appears to me to be an unauthorized copy.
I'm really happy to be able to replace the pdf with a booklet for a few
different reasons, and I'd encourage everyone to obtain a legitimate copy
if possible.

best wishes,

:)

Linda

Linda, thanks for post nag about the Portuguese Abbreviations book. You
mentioned that you had a PDF. Can you send me a link so I can download the
PDF. I've been trying to find the book online this morning but haven't been
able to find it. I hope this is something you can do.

If not then I think the next best thing is order the book from Lisbon. Again,
thanks

Bulhosa is a well known Lisbon bookshop and they take PayPal, so I
placed an order for it. With shipping, the booklet cost a total of about
$16.00-17.00. A few days after placing the order, I received notice that
one of the other books I ordered wasn't available, that amount was
 promptly
refunded to my PayPal account. They also informed me that Paleografias
 was
in the process of being shipped, so that looks very promising. Now, it
just needs to make its way safely through the Portuguese and US postal
systems! I'll update the group when I receive it. They're sending it
"International Economy" rate, so it's anyone's guess how long it will take
 to arrive. :)

I thought I'd post in case others are also interested in buying the
actual booklet. The only difficulty might be navigating the website and
reading the correspondence, as it is entirely in Portuguese. But, it's
 all
relatively straightforward and the interface with PayPal is easy (and in
English). Here's the notice that my book is in process of being shipped:
