Thank you for your responses on the name Adriano. Now I can go back to the
Hawaiian records to see if I can find the name in some sort of variant
form. It is probably misspelled in some way that I haven't uncovered yet.

Thanks for your help!

I have a 6th great grandfather from Vila Franca do Campo who was named Adriano,
so I would say it's Portuguese! Definitely not common.

Hi again Mel,

I just checked the Flores/Corvo Index and Adriano does not appear in it.
However, Adriao (with tilde) shows up 15 times. Cross-checked the Terceira
index again, and Adriao only appears once there. I do not know if they are the
same name or not.

best wishes,

Linda

Yes. I just searched the Terceira marriage index, and it appears there. From
my quick look, it doesn't seem to be used very frequently, appearing only 20
times. The usage spanned about 1690 to 1900 and was both a personal and
surname.

The patriarch's name is Adriano Martin. Is Adriano a Portuguese first name? I
question this because I haven't seen it before. Also, when going through the
Hawaiian records the only Adriano's I came across were Filipino and Italian.

As I haven't found her family in the records for Hawaii, I am wondering if it
could be because I am looking for the wrong nationality.

Thanks for the help!
Mel
