I would say Maia. The document was probably misread. Go to Tombo.pt (click on the British flag if you need to navigate in English). Scroll down the left column to Azores/Açores, then Sao Miguel island, then Ribeira Grande, then Maia. Go to 1868 and start looking for your ancestor born to those parents. You may need to broaden your search to a year or 2 before or a year or 2 after. If you don't read Portuguese, there's a guide on the Azores Genweb to help you bumble your way through. I have found an immigration document showing John Moreira retuning through Boston from St Michaels,in this document his birth place is listed as Maid. He is listing Rhode Island as home and this fits my other records His birthday is about 1868 and parents are listed on his last child’s birth certificate as violante A. And Joao Moreira. What is your mother's name at FTDNA...I have Moreira surname from Santa maria.
