Re:  surname David, this response from my friend who researches crypto
Jews/conversos:

"I've not seen the surname, David, in NM or in any other crypto-Jewish
context. Nor in an Old Christian context for that matter.  I imagine
that there would be some kind of converso connection, depending on when
and where it was found.  When I get back to the office I can look it up
in some etymological dictionaries."

I will pass on any more info to the group that he finds.

it makes sense that David could be a Jewish Potuguese Surname, perhaps
a sephardic jewish name.  Any thoughts on this?

I was going to suggest this theory as well.  I'll check with my sephardic
Jewish expert.

Can anyone tell me if they have come across David as a Portuguese
surname during their research? I belive it it may be a Welsh name.

It seems to be relativly common Portuguese surname. I put it in the
Immigration search for Ancestry and got over 20 returns.

Hi, I thought David was originally a Jewish name since in the Bible he killed
Goliath and eventually became king. He was also the father of Solomon. I
think this predates Welsh history.
