RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Researching genealogical records in Vila Franca do Campo and Ribeira Quente
Hi Cheri, Thanks for all this helpful information. I will see what I can find out. Cheers, Donna From: gfsche...@gmail.com Date: Mon, 2 May 2011 10:29:54 -0700 Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Researching genealogical records in Vila Franca do Campo and Ribeira Quente To: azores@googlegroups.com Donna, Most people have to research back about 200 years (early 1800s) to make a connection to another researcher on this list. But there are always a lucky few who find more recent matches. Death records for 1910 to the present are at the Civil Registry. For you, you'd need to write the Civil Registry in Vila Franca. The address can be obtained from the Azores GenWeb here: http://homepage.mac.com/kmacardoza/Genealogy/genresources.html You didn't state when your ancestors married. Or where. If they married in Vila Franca after 1910, the marriage is still at the Civil Registry. If they married before 1910, the record is at the Biblioteca e Arquivo. Either way, they don't really search for you. They might look a little bit on the one who died in Aug 1956, since that is more specific. A baptism record from 1878 is on film that you can order from your local Family History Center. You just need the freguesia (village) and the volunteer there will help you order it. What years are the deaths from Ribeira Quente? If they are after 1910, you need to write to the Civil Registry in Povoacao that holds those records. The link is above. They will not search for you either. You need the date. If this is too much, there is a list of researchers for hire on the Azores Genweb. I believe all of them are members of this list too. http://homepage.mac.com/kmacardoza/Genealogy/azoresindex.html#researchers Good luck, Cheri Mello Listowner, Azores-Gen Researching: Vila Franca, Ponta Garca, Ribeira Quente, Ribeira das Tainhas, Achada -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. [AZORES-Genealogy] Researching genealogical records in Vila Franca do Campo and Ribeira Quente
Hi everyone, I am currently researching genealogical records for my mother's side of the family in Vila Franca do Campo and Ribeira Quente. I understand there are no online records yet available for S. Miguel and I wonder if anyone else is researching these towns and could help me. Specifically, in Vila Franca do Campo I am looking for the marriage and death records of my great grandparents Manuel Calheta (d.Aug 1956) and Maria de Jesus de Andrade (died c.1946). I am also looking for the birth record of my paternal great grandmother Francisca da Encarnacao Cardoso (b. 1878). In Ribeira Quente, I am looking for the death record of my great grandfather Manuel Leite (b.14 Apr 1872) and the death record of my paternal great grandmother Francisca da Encarnacao Cardoso (b.1878 in Vila Franca). If anyone can guide as to where to look or help me in any way, I would be grateful. Cheers, Donna -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com.
