Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] general filing question

Get a genealogy program for your computer. Paper is too archaic and
cumbersome. Some good programs (that live on your computer) are Legacy
Family Tree (www.legacyfamilytree.com) - their Standard Edition is free and
RootsMagic (www.rootsmagic.com) - their Essentials is free. You can get the
full program for around $30 USD. Don't worry if online is your thing. You
can sync Family Tree Maker with Ancestry and either Legacy or RootsMagic
syncs with My Heritage.com. Or you can just Gedcom it over. But the online
tree display companies really don't give all the features that a serious
genealogist needs.

My program does this (it's no longer made):

Cheri Mello
Listowner, Azores-Gen
Researching: São Miguel island: Vila Franca, Ponta Garca, Ribeira Quente,
Ribeira das Tainhas, Achada

Easier to keep on a genealogy program online. Too much paperwork. I am now
shredding 20 years of paperwork. Ugh

[AZORES-Genealogy] general filing question

2018-08-02 Thread themom8682 via Azores Genealogy
This is not necessarily related to our Azores people, but I'm wondering what is
the recommended filing system for women who have more than one marriage.
Generally for a male I keep everything related to my direct connection (i.e.,
Husband + Wife 1) together in a file with their names; if I have materials
related to husband + wife 2, I usually file it in the back of the
folder--probably bad now that I'm writing it down. For women, they are
generally filed with Husband name & Wife. If she marries a second time do we
start a new file with New Husband & Wife? Does anyone keep the file with
Woman's name & husband(s)? One solution would be to put a paper in the file of
Husband + Wife 1 stating that Wife married Husband 2 so that further
information can be found in that file. Suggestions?
