2016-03-03 Thread Cheri Mello
I would *think* that 1958 was her death date and that they were catching up
with the notes, since they dated them all the same. But I don't see where
it says she died in 1958.

Something was going on in 1958 because both of these notes were written on July
31, 1958. I don't see any reference anything happening to her at this time so
maybe she was just rejoining her native parish so they were updating who she
was.

The first note says that with the complete name of Maria de Egito Rodrigues
(Mary of Egypt?) she married on Nov 4, 1905 in Providence, Rhode Island to
Mariano Rocha de Lima, native of the Azores. The last part of the first note I
can't make out but believe it is a reference to a record source.

The second note says she was widowed on 13 Oct 1943 in São Pedro (Angra) and
references the obito.

As for those dates, I am told that dates are always written day/month/year and
they used to use Roman numerals for the month

On the left page, record no. 5, there is a note in the margin going into the
next page. I am having difficulty understanding what it says. It is for
Maria. Could someone help me translate? I think it is stating that she
married in Rhode Island in 1905 but I can't decide if that's april 11 and I
need the rest of the note.

Thanks in advance.

Bill S,

I've seen the baptism in a marriage before, but it's rare, I'd say.

Thanks for pointing out he said the page number of the book. I got focused
on the math, thinking "how is the bride over 100?" LOL

How much vinho did that priest have

The marriage is 1715, the groom baptized in 1697 (so he's 18) and the bride
baptized in 1600, so she's 115 years old?!?!?!? Guess I'd search for her in
the 1690s!

You are going to have make note that priest made error abt baptism, as he
obviously meant 1700. I believe that name is Joam Roz Pais.

You guys are getting really good at reading the records. It was so
difficult when we had to read the microfilms.

I believe it to be the marriage record for Jose Goncalves Leonardo and Maria do Espirito Santo possibly 11 Sep 1796. (The indexes fo the Sao Bento casamentos are great!) I can't make out much more than that. I'd like confirmation of the date and also the groom and bride's parents information. I can make my way through the more modern records, but In have not trained my eyes to read these abbreviations and not as neat handwriting yet. Thanks,Mike Souza --

I think that surname is Cazemiro. This baby was baptised at home because he
was in danger of dying. I would guess the woman doing the baptizing probably
was the midwife. As far as records, Vila Franca is the Concelho, but there are
several parishes there.
