I have seen a few of these types of records in Ponta Delgada. One mentioned the 
slave was born in Virginia.

Thanks JR,  That tells a lot so we could guess he was most likely born in 
America and purchased by Alfres Jose Leonardo and taken to the Azores. It would 
be interesting to see if he shows up in any other records.

The priest had doubts in his mind that Antonio (adult slave) was baptized in 
America from where he came, so he was baptized again, sub conditione.

Interesting record Rick. I couldn't tell what the words meant after baptized 
for sub condition...do you know? Also, Antonio was an adult but I didn't see an
