Elaine, if you are worried about losing any of the information from the file
you delete, can you put the file on a CD? I am not sure about this; however,
you might ask Joao Ventura, he uses FTM. Celeste

Good luck, I still haven't figure out how to split a file in Family treemaker.
I can split and upload to Ancestry.com but thats not what I need to do.

I finally found the time to transfer my updated Family Tree Maker family file
to my mini from my laptop which I had not updated since we set up the computer
in 1911. In transferring the info, the file on the mini said it could not open
and copy because there was a file open. I do not know what they are talking
about as there is no file open as far as I am concerned so that is my first
problem. In the meantime, it let me open and copy and called the new file by
same name No. 2 So now I have 2 FTW family files the old one without the
updated info and the new one with all the new info I had input into my laptop
and they are both now on my mini. I know this occupies a lot of space to have 2
and am considering the deleting first one and keeping the 2nd but am a little
hesitant to do so. I cannot figure out what they mean that there is a "file
open" on the first one when we tried to open and replace (1) instead of open
and copy (2). Hope you understand all of
this.
