John, I see your message. Thanks. My grandfather did not adopt Caldeira until he reached California, during his days in San Francisco in the mid 1900s. I am not sure whether he came from Flores but I plan to check. Thanks. I will let you know what I find. *Maggie, I would bet that Greg's family hails from Fajazinha Flores. My 2G grandfather was Jose de Freitas da Caldeira who was from Fajazinha, Flores. Caldeira is a part of Fajazinha which is just over the hill from "downtown Fajazinha" toward Mosteiro. "Caldeira" is an alcunha (nickname) that in my family case refers to an area where the particular person either resided or possibly owned property. Hi Maggie, you might want to tell him that I will be lecturing in Merced on May 18th on tracing your Portuguese lines. I will have 3 hours so I believe I will have time to do a little US research "helps" and then reading the Portuguese records. As far as I'm aware it will be a free class put on by the Merced County Gen. Soc.
