Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation help - Mathias Calvo 1731 Ajuda de Bretanha
I descend from Águeda Calvo daughter of Sebastião Fernandes Moreno and Beatriz Calvo from Bretanha. Águeda married Manuel Martins in Santo Antonio on 28 feb 1641. Manuel was the son of Bartolomeu Roiz and Isabel Martins from Santo Antonio. Águeda and Manuel were the parents of Pedro Martins Calvo baptized in São José, Ponta Delgada, and married in São Roque with Maria de Oliveira. They are the ancestors of my 4th grandfather Manuel Machado from São Roque. You can probably order it from the Archives in Ponta Delgada. It is called "TERMOSDOS CASADOS E BATIZADOS DABRETANHA que estavam num livro velho e foram feitos pelo Vigário André de Sousa Dias no anode 1727." It is several pages long and has not been typed up. The Vicar's penmanship is not the worst I have seen. I did check my copy. Your Antonio and Andre are not in the baptisms or marriages. There are several Calvos going back to ANDRÉ CALVO, son of SebastiãoFernandes Moreno and Beatriz Calva, married in Bretanha on 3 Apr 1640 to MARIA GONÇALVES, daughter of FilipeGonçalves Ana de Medeiros. The couple was related in the 4th degree of consanguinity. The first marriage recorded in the index was in 1569; the first recorded baptism was in 1606. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation help - Mathias Calvo 1731 Ajuda de Bretanha
Hi Joanne, Not certain if you have your answers. Here's my take: Mathias (Matias) son of Antonio Alvres (Alvares) Calvo and Victoria (Vitoria) de Aquiar. Bron on the 21st day of the month of December of 1738 and baptised in this Parish of his parents where they are naturally from on the 26th day of the same month and year, by me Andre de Sousa Dias, Vicar of the same. Goparents Mathias (Matias) Calvo and Maria da Estrela children of Andre Calvo and Luzia de Sousa of this same parish. perhaps "Sousa"? for Antonio's second name. baptism date looks like it's at the end of the fourth line down: 26th of same month and year and, I don't see any grandparents listed either :) Linda On Friday, September 9, 2016 at 7:36:13 PM UTC-7, Joanne wrote: > > Whoops! sorry… > http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-AJUDABRETANHA-B-1726-1742/SMG-PD-AJUDABRETANHA-B-1726-1742_item1/P146.html > > > > On September 9, 2016 at 10:19:04 PM, Sandra Perez (perezsa...@gmail.com > ) wrote: > > Joanne, > > Send link please. > > On Fri, Sep 9, 2016 at 6:56 PM, Joanne Mercier > wrote: > >> I’m looking at trying to understand Mathias’ father’s middle name >> (Antonio Calvo is clear but that’s it) and I think his mother’s name is >> Victoria de Aguiar.
