Re: [backstage] A question about BBC-iPlayer_Setup.exe
Hi All, Can anyone help me with this please? Thank you very much Dan On 13/01/2008 13:01, Dogsbody was seen to type: Unlike the questions about the the iplayer itself I have a question regarding the exe that Windows users can use to download iplayer. I am trying to write a tool to monitor/filter web traffic and so I need to identify the media type of all files it see and unpack all archive files. I'm having difficulty with BBC-iPlayer_Setup.exe, I can identify it as a self-extracting Microsoft CAB file, but when I try to unpack it, it fails. I guess my questions are... - Is it a self-extracting CAB file? - If it is not a CAB file what is it please? - And, if possible, what tool was used to create it and package it up? Thank you :-) I'll go back to lurking now :-) Dan - Sent via the backstage.bbc.co.uk discussion group. To unsubscribe, please visit http://backstage.bbc.co.uk/archives/2005/01/mailing_list.html. Ah, thought that might be it :P No, I've only been on the list a few weeks. Back to RTMP. I was looking at the documentation and some of the code for RTMP with a view to maybe porting it into this script. It's really quite nasty! I think it'll be a while before I'm bored enough to attempt that. Any extensions to this script from me are likely going to be calls to apps importing the rtmp.c written for Gnash. I also have issues with the restrictive nature of parts of GPLv3 (and I'm not alone in this), so if you're going to use a the GPL, I'd suggest GPL 2, if it's good enough for Linux, it's good enough for me. Re: [backstage] Streaming iPlayer age guidance
The BBC has only a single binary policy about age restriction, which is the Watershed Policy... *Watershed policy* From 9pm the TV watershed helps parents protect children from unsuitable material. In all but exceptional circumstances, programmes before 9pm are suitable for general audiences including children. From 9pm they are progressively suitable only for adults. Because children's sensibilities vary as widely as those of adults, parents are expected to share responsibility in judging whether children should watch after 9pm. The BBC can be received in every household, but two-thirds of them have no children. Our public obligation is to provide services for all licence fee payers, as well as those with children *http://www.bbc.co.uk/info/policies/decency.shtml* On 18/01/2008, Andy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 17/01/2008, Matthew Somerville [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/metafiles/episode/b008s14v.xml - you just need the programme episode PIP. What with him joining the Digital Media team, and with his vast experience in content distribution... Certainly, the core strategy and architecture of the iPlayer doesn't seem to have changed (an albeit more streamlined Kontiki experience, but still with the same MSDRM and still transmitted via the same means) - I've certainly not seen any particular innovations past what's already there. Yes, Anthony has made an enormous difference to the iPlayer project and FMT in general.
