I'm totally ignorant, but I hadn't seen a WinMo do anything like the
gPhone/iPhone's animated UI.

(Apple doesn't even allow the public to see the API for its canvas, because
iPhone apps are webapps, but Google has made Skia free software; Skia is the
high performance canvas library that doesn't require a 3D graphics chip, that
makes all the iPhone-style bouncy UI animation fly)

Cheers,

From that article,

It's just very exciting for me as a computer geek to have a phone I can play
with and modify.

See this is what I mean.

Don't get me wrong for backstage and the community of developers, geeks,
hackers, etc. Its going to be great to have a phone which is open enough to
modify and change but for consumers what's the big deal?

As Jim Tonge pointed out its all about marketing and google are not doing that.

Anyway we'll find out real soon. I'm looking forward to dual booting my HTC
phone real soon.

2008-09-23 Thread Sam Mbale
I'm not sure this is in context, just couldn't resist sharing..

The problem is not simply that IT people are disgruntled. The problem is
that geeks in general are one culture and suits are a different culture.
They're like oil and water. They have completely different ideas about what
should be going on. The whole situation is loaded with lack of respect and
lack of trust on both sides. ...

I don't think techies ever doubted they had the keys to car. Now the suits
are starting to realize it. Back in the '90s, I talked to techs who were
fully aware of the Y2K problem, but they were content to sit back and wait
for it to all go to hell. Watching a suit go down in flames is entertainment
for geeks.

-- Author Bill
Pfleginghttp://www.infoworld.com/article/08/09/22/39FE-IT-management-chasm_1.html,
quoted in an InfoWorld article warning that underappreciated, overburdened
IT workers with broad network privileges represent a ticking time bomb.
