Re: [backstage] The Sky at Night BBC1 vs BBC4 editions

2010-11-12 Thread Geoff Hogg
An obvious point. OK what about tagging.

Sky At Night in HD could be tagged as Science, Space, Astronomy, HD,
(PatrickMoore? he is a tag in his own right).

I got the hang of tags on delicious a few years back and like the way
I can follow different subjects. Although I don't know how many others
use tags this way.

Re: [backstage] The Sky at Night BBC1 vs BBC4 editions

2010-11-10 Thread Geoff Hogg
From another point of view.

Why not put on iPlayer HD versions of programmes that haven't been
broadcast in HD. Maybe even 1080p?

Or even have an iPlayer channel for programmes that haven't been
broadcast at all?

There does seem to be the issue that iPlayer can only be used to catch
up with broadcast TV, it doesn't need to be tied at all to it.

Providing The Sky At Night is recorded in HD, surely it could be put
on iPlayer as HD even though it hasn't been broadcast.

I had planned to buy a HD pvr, but since my Sony Bluray player can
connect up to the BBC iPlayer I can watch more than enough HD TV
without having to buy another more expensive box.

One request. It would be great if the iPlayer could remember my last
saved position in a feed, I keep having to fast forward to where I
stopped, but it is still early days. How much TV is recorded and
edited in HD. I assume there are limits due to all the capital
investment required.

[backstage] An impromptu iPlayer mashup?

2008-09-21 Thread Geoff Hogg
OK, not the place to report bugs, but I have seldom seen such an
interesting one.

Horizon: The President's Guide to Science

switching to High quality
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dlr2j/

I guess you have till Tuesday to see this before the new Horizon replaces this.

I am not sure how video streams would be interlaced like that. A
transcoding bug, a memory reference problem? I would like to know, I
have been trying to work out what might have caused it.

Or perhaps Angela Rippon hacked in to the system to increase her
televisual exposure. High jacking Horizon for her own evil ends? Maybe
she'll be deemed worthy to appear in next year's Strictly Come
Dancing?

It is quite distressing to be confronted with day time TV with no warning.

I did plan to report this on the forum, but either I have forgotten my
password, or someone else has nabbed my nom de net. I can't be
bothered with apathy.
