RE: [backstage] Is the backstage website down ?

2006-05-30 Thread Ben Metcalfe
Hey all

Yes, the box appears to be down - well apache service isn't working.
I've logged a call with the support peeps. We don't have SSH access to
the live servers here at BBC, but someone who does will probably just
need to login and restart apache.

Sadly, due to the experimental nature of the box we run backstage on,
we don't have 24/7 cover. It's something which I think might happen
during the year - backstage (and other sites, see below) will move over
to the main BBC server farm which is covered 24/7. Also there are 40+
servers spanning London + New York so if one goes down, you wouldn't
notice it.

Backstage server also powers:
open.bbc.co.uk
creativearchive.bbc.co.uk
... So if it goes down, so do those sites sadly :(

Will keep you posted,

Ben :: backstage.bbc.co.uk

About why you're on the Backstage list... (was: RE: [backstage] Is the backstage website down ?)

2006-05-30 Thread Ciaran Hamilton
Hi Helen,

The reason you're getting these emails is that you're subscribed to the
Backstage mailing list from http://backstage.bbc.co.uk/ - although it's
currently down right now.

They are not addressed to you personally, they're sent to the entire list.
The only way you can have been added to the Backstage mailing list is if
you deliberately signed up, or if the BBC added your address to the list.
The latter is unlikely, so it might be that at some point in the past you
subscribed, and then forgot about it.

To unsubscribe, you should follow the link at the bottom of each email you
receive, where it says:

===
-
Sent via the backstage.bbc.co.uk discussion group. To unsubscribe, please
visit http://backstage.bbc.co.uk/archives/2005/01/mailing_list.html.
Unofficial list archive:
http://www.mail-archive.com/backstage@lists.bbc.co.uk/
===

The unsubscribe link currently won't work as the site is down, but as soon
as it's back up you should be able to follow it and unsubscribe yourself
from the list.

I hope this helps.

 - Ciaran.
