Re: [BackupPC-users] Different TopDir for different clients.
Thanks for responding: Regarding the first issue. I have a limited backup space in my server. On the other had I have disk space in some clients that is wasted. Thus I was hopping to backup one client to another client's disk, rather than to my main storage. Regarding the second issues. The client is a windows client. My understanding is that when you use rsyncd in windows. you can either exclude dirs or include dirs. not both. I only need to backup a couple of user accounts in that client. I was hoping to do it with two backup schedules, because of the limitation above. These accounts have different file exclusions. -Oz Martin Leben wrote: > Hi Oz, > > Read on... > > Oz Dror wrote: > >> I am sure that it was asked before, but I was not able to find >> satisfying answer on the net. >> >> 1. I'd recommend just editing lib/BackupPC/Lang/en.pm (assuming you are using english), and remove these lines: \${h2("User Actions")} \$startIncrStr This doesn't actually disable user requested backups - it just removes the CGI buttons. An enterprising use could still figure out the URL to start a backup. Re: [BackupPC-users] Different TopDir for different clients.
Oz, Try multiple implementations of BackupPC server! Even one 'big backup server' and several 'virtual servers' to handle special needs. For most clients, I agree, multiple schedules are not needed, but I too have come into that kind of issue (a directory has lots of changes, so we needed to back it up hourly, even though the data was never there over 24 hours before it was merged into a big database that was backed up daily. I had a different 'client name' and different 'backup schedule' for that client alone. This was NOT using BackupPC (It was IBMs TSM). It might be possible to do that in BackupPC, but we need to get someone that knows more BackupPC than I do to answer that. But I agree, please give us a bit more detail of the problem / issue you are trying to address, the we can brainstorm together! ... [BackupPC-users] BackupPC_changePool
Hello everyone, One of the tools I've written for easier BackupPC maintenance is BackupPC_changePool. This script makes it easier to change the location of the pool, which is of benefit for people who would like to rotate external drives. I will be investigating implementing the 'snapshot' utility later, but for the time being it's in development. This script is included in BackupPC Community Edition 3.1.0+ftp. Be sure to adjust your library include paths appropriately. >From the beginning of the file: # BackupPC_changePool: Move, change, or copy the pool to another # location on the filesystem. # # DESCRIPTION # # Usage: BackupPC_changePool --[new|switch|snapshot] # # new: this option creates a new empty pool at and updates # the global configuration file with the location. This # is the default behavior. # # switch: this option updates the configuration information to look # at for pool information. This option does not # perform any other disk operations. # # snapshot: THIS OPTION IS NOT YET SUPPORTED. This option places a # snapshot the current pool to the location specified by # . It can later be switched to with the # --switch option. The location folder must be empty # before the command is run. # Adios, -- Paul Mantz http://www.mcpantz.org Zmanda - Open source backup and recovery http://www.zmanda.com/ BackupPC_changePool Description: Binary data - This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/___ BackupPC-users mailing list BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net List:https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users Wiki:http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/
Re: [BackupPC-users] How to Prevent Users Starting a Backup
Nils, thanks for the quick response. $Conf{MaxUserBackups} seems to work in conjunction with $Conf{MaxBackups} to restrict the total number of simultaneous backups that can be run. My tests appear to confirm this as a user is still able to manually start a backup when this value is set to 0 and no other backup is running. I was hoping to find a solution which prevents the user from starting a backup but allows for a restore whenever required. Have I missed your point? [BackupPC-users] How to Prevent Users Starting a Backup
Is it possible to stop a user from manually taking a full and/or incremental backup? I have tried setting $Conf{MaxUserBackups} = 0; but this does not achieve the goal. Why do this? I have a network in which all user home directories are stored on a dedicated file-server and therefore not stored locally on each PC. The backups of the file-server are conducted using the schedule facility of BackupPC. This setup is working well. To make it simpler for each user it will be preferred if they were able to conduct only restores. I am not a "coder" and anything beyond "commenting out" may be beyond my ability. However, if anyone has any simple suggestions I am willing to test them. - Email sent from www.virginmedia.com/email Virus-checked using McAfee(R) Software and scanned for spam - This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ ___ BackupPC-users mailing list BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net List:https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users Wiki:http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/
