[BackupPC-users] Copy the log dir from /var/lib/backuppc/log

2011-01-07 Thread Madcha
Hi,

I have created a new data store for my backupps
I have created symbolink links
from var/lib/backuppc/cpool to /media/backuppc/cpool
from var/lib/backuppc/pc to /media/backuppc/pc
fromd var/lib/backuppc/trash to /media/backuppc/trash

all is fine, and my backupps do well,
but now I want to move the log dir from /var/lib/backuppc/log to
/media/backuppc/log
but I receive : cp can't create special file...BackupPC.sock

Is there a way to copy the entire log dir?

What format is the filesystem in /media/backuppc ?

[BackupPC-users] backing up Windows 7 libraries

2011-01-07 Thread Frank J . Gómez
Hello,

I'm using smb to back up a Windows 7 machine. I noticed that Windows 7
treats My Pictures, My Videos, etc. differently than regular folders. They
are almost like symlinks that are linked to real folders on the
filesystem. (It took me a while to figure out why some of these folders
were empty in the BackupPC administrative interface.)

So, I'm writing because I can't figure out where the contents of the My
Videos folder is contained.

I'm getting this in my error log:

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED listing \Documents\My Videos\*
NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED listing \Videos\*

The My Videos folder is supposed to be linked to C:\Users\myuser\Videos, yet
BackupPC reports an empty folder.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
-Frank

let me guess ...

- you didn't read the instructions and
- pooling isn't working, but you haven't noticed yet.

You shouldn't link the subdirectories, you should make $TopDir a link to
the alternate location: 'ln -s /media/backuppc /var/lib/backuppc'.

 I receive : cp can't create special file...BackupPC.sock

Wow, what program might produce that kind of output? It looks vaguely
like an error message from 'cp'. There's no point in copying the socket.
BackupPC will re-create it upon startup. Even if you could copy it, the
copy would have no effect.
