[BackupPC-users] AsperaSync?

2015-12-08 Thread Moorcroft, Mark (ARC-TS)[Analytical Mechanics Associates, INC.]

Has anyone looked into dropping the paid AsperaSync or perl module parsync into
BackupPC to replace vanilla rsync?

What is it about clicking Send that improves reading comprehension? Right
on the page (http://www.michaelstowe.com/backuppc/ ) is a link to the
Github page:  https://github.com/mwstowe/BackupPC-Client

In my defense, it was way at the end of a blurb about a specific older
version, but still... :( (Paragraphing FTW! :) )

Excellent! Your statement above caused me to do some extra searching. A
couple of things:

1) I was using a much older version. I can't find the installer I used at
the moment, but I'm pretty sure it was 1.1, and almost certain it was from
the goodjobsucking.com site and not the michaelstowe.com one. In fact, I
*did* look for an update before I wrote something: but I was looking at
the old site. I didn't even know about the new one. So, you *have*
updated things -- and significantly! Yay!

For others: Michael seems to be shy to link people to his work. So, I'll
do it for him:  http://www.michaelstowe.com/backuppc/

2) I looked for a github site for this software and couldn't find one,
including searching for various permutations of "backuppc github". I
probably don't need it with the updated items linked above, but would you
mind sharing it?

Again, thank you very much for the updates! I'm excited by being able to
lazy-install it on Windows Server 2012 now, as well as maybe using it on
my multi-drive servers!

So I still collected some 4.4 GB of caps, split them into chunks of 10
mio each and this is what I can see:

The last ACK from the backup server to the client:

81873   144.097589  10.8.80.6   10.21.32.5  TCP 52  1 →
873 [ACK] Seq=1
Ack=73045447 Win=1321 Len=0 TSval=1701819479 TSecr=193052428

Then a series of Spurious Retransmissions from the client to the Server:

81874   172.857945  10.21.32.5  10.8.80.6   RSYNC   1406[TCP
ZeroWindow] [TCP
Spurious Retransmission] Server MOTD

Followed by several Dup ACK from the server to the client:

81875   172.857979  10.8.80.6   10.21.32.5  TCP 64  [TCP
Dup ACK 81873#1] 1
→ 873 [ACK] Seq=1 Ack=73045447 Win=1321 Len=0 TSval=1701826669
TSecr=193052428 SLE=73003473 SRE=73004827

And finally the client sends a reset:

81884   172.862230  10.21.32.5  10.8.80.6   TCP 40  873 →
1 [RST, ACK]
Seq=73004827 Ack=1 Win=0 Len=0

Now, I'm not an expert at reading TCP streams, so I'd be grateful if
anyone could point out what I need to be looking for, or how to
interpret this data.

Looks like the Windows client is ending the connection, but does anyone
see why from this?

> The backup process is always starting with /cygdrive/c so at least some

I can't tell what happened, but this time around (with rsyncd, not
ssh+rsync) I'm seeing "same" on the second attempt.

Also, it managed to get more files this time around than at any previous
attempt, so it created a new partial backup.

Best regards,
David

Re: [BackupPC-users] BackupPC-3.3.1-1.el6.x86_64 and Windows 10

2015-12-08 Thread Stephen
A stab in the dark: which smbclient are you running on your backuppc
server? My guess is it's older than 4.0 (which supports SMB3, nee SMB2.2),
and probably older than 3.6 (which introduced SMB2 support).

My colleagues that support windows tell me that Windows 10 disables SMB1 by
default. There are valid security reasons for preferring SMB2/3 over SMB1
(see ).

If you want to verify and/or resort to allowing SMB1, on your Win10
machine, use regedit to BACKUP your registry, then search for and change:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
SMB3=0
SMB2=0
SMB1=1

Create these DWORD entries if they do not exist. Reboot when done. Note I'm
not responsible if you screw up your machine. Educate yourself before
blindly following strangers' directions.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Stephen

or only
changed files)

Now ‘m down to the point of it not backing up anything again and back to the

From Google searches, it doesn’t appear anyone is using or has tried backing up

CGI didn't have permission to the file, once I gave CGI the appropriate
permission the two graphs showed up. Prior to that I just got
placeholder icons, no images.
