[BackupPC-users] rsyncd info

2009-02-16 Thread Terry
Hi I was just wondering what rsync does when running rsyncd on the
client if a full backup fails.
Does it try and continue from where it left off on the next run ?
Also for the next full backup I assume it does a complete copy ?

Thanks
Terry

[BackupPC-users] HoboCopy

2009-02-11 Thread Terry
Out of interest is any one using HoboCopy
http://alt.pluralsight.com/wiki/default.aspx/Craig/HoboCopy.html to
help backup there windows ? Still debating the best option to grab a
copy of the pst on start-up on the machines so it can then be rsynced
safely.
To avoid any files in use messages.
Backuppc has been running on the home lan a treat backing up the kids
wireless laptops using rsyncd. Built a backup machine yesterday for a
small company and it is going into action next week and I am feeling
confident apart from the pst's but we will see :)
Due to there size any batch file to copy them to another part of the
drive takes a fair few minutes and I just know the users are going to
close the window. Unless I just do that once a week hmm

Re: [BackupPC-users] vista laptops info

2009-02-01 Thread Terry
Hi every one. I have a small work group of vista laptops who come into
the office and connect using wireless and dhcp.
I am looking to backup there my documents and there pst file which tend
to be a round 2 to 3 GB.
The one big snag is there pst files are mostly going to be open and even
when they close out look the outlook process may still be running due to
add ons they have such as act etc.
Any pointers or experiences welcome. Or am I going to be banging my head
against a brick wall.

The plus point is I have a freebsd server to use. I am in the middle of
setting up backuppc at home now for some testing

Thanks
Terry

Just been reading through the list and rsyncd seems a possible good way to go.
If I share the whole c drive I can hopefully pick out what I need to backup.
Going to depend on what privileges the rsync service has under vista I guess
