But ... > > I would like to get confirmation of successful backups each morning for > > all hosts. ... you won't get those by default. BackupPC is designed not to bother you with messages for "the normal case". Only when something goes wrong will it alert you (with the obvious disadvantage that it won't if something goes so wrong that it can't - but that's unlikely to happen without an upgrade or configuration change as cause). The reasoning behind this is that you should be able to take every e-mail message seriously, rather than having to distinguish between a lot of noise and rare problem notifications. If you want the noise, you can always set up a DumpPostUserCmd (there should be a wiki page with details but apparently isn't; search the archives for details instead). The advantage of this is that you can include just about any information you want in the e-mail message. Regards, Holger -- The NEW KODAK i700 Series Scanners deliver under ANY circumstances! [BackupPC-users] invalid mail option
I'm having trouble getting backuppc configured to send status emails. In the log I noticed it's trying to use the -t option which doesn't work. I tried changing the mail path from /bin/mail to /usr/sbin/sendmail, but I don't think that will work correctly either. The log entry is: 2009-05-08 01:00:43 BackupPC_nightly now running BackupPC_sendEmail 2009-05-08 01:00:43 admin : /bin/mail: invalid option -- t 2009-05-08 01:00:43 admin : Usage: mail [-iInv] [-s subject] [-c cc-addr] [-b bcc-addr] to-addr ... 2009-05-08 01:00:43 admin : [-- sendmail-options ...] 2009-05-08 01:00:43 admin :mail [-iInNv] -f [name] 2009-05-08 01:00:43 admin :mail [-iInNv] [-u user] If somebody can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I would like to get confirmation of successful backups each morning for all hosts. Tim -- The NEW KODAK i700 Series Scanners deliver under ANY circumstances!
