Thanks Bowie. Seemed to have done the trick, but I don't see anything red
in the logs. 8-/ Checked all logs, the machine specific as well as the
 general summary log.

the log files are conceptually ASCII, not HTML. You can't really get colour in
there. You *could* make the code that displays the log file contents on the
web page parse the log file and highlight anything you want (similar to the
ability to extract only errors). That's definitely more complicated than
adding a HTML tag somewhere, though.
You could probably put HTML tags in the text log files, but I'd expect the
characters to be quoted by the displaying code, so aside from looking ugly
in the log files when viewed as text, it would probably look just as ugly on
the web page rather than work ;-).

Ah... Gotcha'. Thanks for clearing that up!

Edit the interface .pl/cgi files, and add font color=red/font tags
around any error message output.

Thanks.

Are we speaking of the file /usr/share/backuppc/cgi-bin/BackupPC_Admin,
referred
to in /etc/httpd/conf.d/backuppc.conf?

I don't see any .pl-files, except for those customized machine config-files
that
do not use the default backup config setup.

This is on CentOS v5.5 i386, BTW.

Sorry. Try these:

/usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/CGI/
/usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Lang/

CGI is the better place, but for your own needs you may find editing
Lang/en.pm is faster.

If you want to contribute, you could always create se.pm, although I
don't think color edits there would be accepted.

Was looking into changing the log message 2011-02-09 22:01:48 Backup failed on
mach059.x.y.z (Child exited prematurely) so I looked for the text failed
using

# find -iname *.pm | xargs grep -iR failed failed.log.txt

in the /usr/lib/BackupPC. Nothing was found so I went to / and did the same
search. I had some better success here, but nothing that stands out as a likely
suspect. The closest I get is

./usr/lib/BackupPC/Lang/en.pm:$Lang{Reason_backup_failed} = backup
failed;

I'm not quite sure how to add the red html tags, referenced earlier to this.

Can somebody with a better knowledge than me in this help some more?

Thanks.

See if this works. In /usr/lib/BackupPC/Lang/en.pm:

Do the same for any other backup errors in the lang file. This is a hack
(this doesn't belong in the Lang data), but it's a fast way to do what
you want.
