I find that backing up open files is particularly useful:

I have found his tool quite helpful in every regard except one: the
installer will fail to install on Windows Server 2012/R2 (and quite likely
Windows 8/8.1). It doesn't detect the VSS version and therefore won't
install *anything*. (And needless to say, all of my new servers are
2012...)

Michael was kind enough to send me the source code for the installer, but
my installer-fu is weak: after a weekend of playing with it I was no
closer to making it work.

I've been told that it's not terribly difficult to do by hand what the
installer is doing, but I haven't tried. If there are any users out there
who have done the manual version and have documented the process, I would
greatly appreciate seeing that documentation...

I'm happy to point out that this has been updated, and it now works with
Server 2012 as well as the Windows 8/8.1 series.

That said, a little over a month ago (I think) somebody did an excellent
job of documenting their experience and the issues they encountered on
this mailing list. It's on my to do list to add that to the
documentation.

When I was dealing with Outlook clients, I simply instructed them to
close down Outlook before they left for the night. That way the file
isn't open and BPC can back it up.
