Hi Jesper,
After removing backuppc v3.2.1 and supporting packages and reinstalling the
latest versions everything is now working.
Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks again for your response and your test results.
This certainly has me baffled.
I guess I'll try and re-install backuppc w/version 3.1 and see if that
helps.

Hi Paul,

Just tested it on one of my BackupPC servers.

Now mine is installed on Debian6 x64, and uses the stable backuppc

package (3.1.0) from the Debian repositories.

Hi Jesper,

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately this did not resolve the problem. I
set the unix charset =ISO8859-1 and then restarted the samba server, but
to no avail. I then tried changing the code page in BackupPC for rsyncd
to cp850, which the samba documentation indicated would be required to match
the iso8859-1 setting, but that also did not help.

I am still at a loss on how to proceed.

Hi Paul,

In my experience you also need to set the Samba charset besides the backuppc
client charset when using backuppc over smb with these special characters.

smb.conf:
SNIP
...
[global]
unix charset =ISO8859-1
...
/SNIP

I have the same issue as you describe just with speciel danish characters(æ,
ø and å) and setting the charset in Samaba solves this.

Hello,

I'm having an issue with backuppc, that I have not seen reported in any
of the user lists.

I am using the latest versions of backupppc(3.2.1 on Ubuntu 10.04) and
cygwin / rsyncd (1.7.9 / 3.08) on WinXP (SP3).

I am backing up a large directory of mp3 files ~6,000 files.

From all appearances the backup works fine:

- The rsyncd.log shows each file being transferred with no errors.

- The Backuppc log reports the successful completion of the backup
indicating receipt of all ~6000 files
and the transfer of over 24GB.

But…when I browse the backup most of the files are not there!!

After some investigation I discovered that any file with a filename
starting with “(“, “-“, or “)” are not being
copied to the disk…

Since a majority of my files begin with ”(“ they are not being reflected
in the backuppc backup directory.

I have the $Conf{ClientCharset} option set to cp1252 for the WinXP
config.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Am I missing something
obvious?

I hope I can resolve it without resorting changing 4000+ filenames…

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Paul

these are different file systems, or this file system doesn't support

some questions/ideas:
- what kind of file system do you use?
- is it possible that the install don't creates the necessary
directories in the data dir (afaik cpool, pc, pool)?

Hi

?? im not sure why you would be getting a gdk error. if you dont already
know, gdk is a graphics framework for gnome and xfce and the Xlib is an
access library for gdk to talk to X windows. it looks like your ssh client
 does some gdk calls.

what distro are you on? this looks like a gentoo thing, am i wrong?

The problem seems to be related to the ssh-askpass program, probably
the keys are not corrected configured to work without a password, and
ssh is trying to run ssh-askpass. Don't know exactly how this works,
but if the keys are correct, I think that everything will work fine.

Try to run ssh as backuppc user, to see if you can connect to the
hello.com host.

Good Luck!

Rodrigo

I still see --devices instead of -D in the command.

I also have nothing to add to my last answer to the same question.

Re: [BackupPC-users] backuppc problem about storage

2007-10-08 Thread Koen Linders

hey Varuna,

This is how i did it.

If its on the same system:

- Stop backuppc
- move /var/lib/backuppc to the location you want.
- Create symlink:
= ln -s /location_you_want /var/lib/backuppc
- Start backuppc

I hope this helps,

Koen Linders

Re: [BackupPC-users] backuppc problem about storage

2007-10-04 Thread Renke Brausse
Hello Varuna,

as I know the path is hard coded while compiling - I
bind-mounted /var/lib/backuppc to the real storage path to solve this
issue.
