Re: [Bacula-users] Automatic FTP after a group of backup jobs have been run

2007-12-26 Thread Vladimir Doisan
There is an easier way to do it, just make sure that certain job always
runs last.
I did something similar with encryption (before it existed in Bacula)
using RunAfterJob command placed in BackupCatalog job
Just make sure that
1 - priority is the lowest (highest integer number) of all jobs
2 - Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1
3 - RunAfterJob = /etc/bacula/whatever_script.sh
4 - Edit /etc/bacula/whatever_script.sh to your liking. Use FTP or
even better SCP/SFTP to copy the data over to another server. Make sure
these protocols support large file transfers (compiled with
-D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 Cflag), otherwise the max transfer limit will
be 2 Gig.

BTW, instead of using BackupCatalog job, you could create an admin job
with same settings as above, I believe it is covered in the manual.

Good luck

So what I'm after is something that will firstly only run once all the
nightly backups are done. I can do a time based best-guess on when the
backups will have been completed by, but that feels a little kludgy. I
could attach a 'run-after' to the job that I think will run last, but I
don't know if that is deterministic? Finally, I could have a cron job
that kicks off some time around when the backup will probably end, and
makes sure that the latest backup file is not in use (fuser) and has not
changed over a (say) 5 minute interval.

After it has established that the backup has definitely completed, it
would then ftp the file up to the NAS.

[Bacula-users] way too large incremental backup...

2007-12-26 Thread Sebastian Perkins

Hello,

I'm using Bacula 2.2.6 : I have the main client (linux) that is incrementing
50Gb per day ! Out of a possible 270GB for a full backup... Every day, there
are over 400.000 files being saved, even during weekends...

We have modified the fileset to include only office/pics/pdf filetypes, we
have gained 9Gb... but this is still not what we're expecting.

The files are rsynced from distant sites to a central backup, and bacula is
installed a as client on this central backup (so we can get the full/inc/diff
backups on LAN). The combined daily upload (from rsync stats) is way below
50Gb.

So I've got two questions :

1) How does Bacula check file mods ? Do I have to do something special with
rsync (flag/option/...) ?

2) Is there a way to show the list of files being saved from a job/client ?

Thanks in advance and Merry Xmas to everybody !

The compression project was abandoned, but in theory it should not be
hard to create. GZIP is OK, but there are better things out there now
like rk, rar and 7z

One of the variations of the estimate command should give you what you
need. If you need it after the fact, the query command has an option
for that (or you could query the database yourself with the SQL that is
in query.sql or something similar).

Within bconsole, you can use list files jobid=NNN where NNN is the
jobid that last ran.

I wouldn't think that rsynced files would be a problem, at least if you
weren't doing anything odd.

I think that LZMA would definitely be a nice addition to bacula (which
is used by the 7z format) to compress the data.

If it matters to anyone, I use a PHP script as my mail program to
capture stdin and send it to the admins, while a nicer looking email
is sent to our clients. This way I can link my bacula database with
table full of client information such email addresses and proper
nouns.

Cheers,

One thing that should be a big big advantage would be to have some compressor
multi-threaded ready to take advantage of Dual
Core and multiproc ...
