[Bacula-users] REPLACE BSMTP with other mail program

2008-10-20 Thread Peter Herrington
Hello

I am having the continual situation where the bsmtp cant send me emails
because of various reasons,
First it was invalid recipient.As Soon as I put in a valid email addr, it
then says invalid sender.
Now I just saw in the mail queue that my ISP email server refused the
connection.

My Clarkconnect server's email server component,postfix is configured to
OUTBOUND RELAY to my ISP mail server
Because that was the only way I could get my emails from my LAN to the
intended recipients on the internet.

My thinking goes if I can only put another email program in the email
settings, one that authorise on smtp,
My problem will be solved, unless of course bsmtp can do that.

Any pointers will be great

Rgds/Pete

[Bacula-users] Reducing the size of the database.

2008-10-20 Thread Hemant Shah
This is probably a question for a PostgreSQL group, but I though users using
bacula may have come across this problem.

I am using PostgreSQL for the database, last week when I checked, my database
size was 10GB. I removed one month worth of volumes from the bacula database
and ran dbcheck command. It deleted about 40,000 rows from the database, but
the database size was still 10GB. Next, I ran postgresql vacuumdb (vacuumdb -q
-d bacula -z -f)command to reclaim the space used by deleted rows, but the
database size is still 10GB. How do I reduce the size of the database?

I also backup the catalog every night using pgdump command. Before I deleted
the 40,000 rows the backup file size was 800MB, after deleting 40,000 rows the
backup file size is still 800MB.

That might well be a good solution, and address a couple other things,
too. I suppose I have been too used to tar-style backups, where each
backup ended up in a separate file. But you are right, it doesn't have
to be organized that way.

Do you by any chance have a sample bacula-dir.conf that would illustrate
how this would work?

What would be a good choice for the volume limit? I am backing up a
total of seven machines; the largest is a 70 GB backup (full), the
smallest is less than 1 GB. I would like to keep them all in the same
pool because I quite frequently add or remove machines, and don't want
to have to reorganize the pools all the time.

A second question I was going to post in a separate thread, but now it
seems related: I have two external USB/eSATA drives, and can't figure
out how to get bacula to rotate them on a weekly basis so I can take one
of them off site.

Re: [Bacula-users] All files in directory always included

2008-10-20 Thread Jorge Cabello
I forgot to mention that files that match wilddir expresion
(/home/test/*/logs) aren't included. So that part works fine.

The always included files are /home/test/dir/files (where 'dir' is any
directory inside test and 'files' is any directory or file except logs
directory).

[Bacula-users] All files in directory always included

2008-10-20 Thread Jorge Cabello
Hi,

I'm having problems with a configuration in which all the files inside a
directory are always include in the backup (full, incremental and
differential). Some files may change each day but not all, so I think I
must have something wrong in the configuration but I'm not able to find
it.

The problem I think it must be in the FileSet as it's the only thing
that changes from other backups I have.

Bacula version: 1.38.11
Problem: All files inside /home/test are always include in the backup
even if they haven't change since last backup and its an incremental
backup.

FileSet definition:

   FileSet {
Name = "TestFileset"

Include {
Options {
signature = MD5
compression=GZIP
wilddir = /home/test/*/logs
exclude = yes
}
File = /
File = /home
}

Exclude {
File = /tmp
}
   }

Thanks for any idea on how to solve this.

[Bacula-users] autochanger - change tapes

2008-10-20 Thread Craig White
I haven't reached this point yet but clearly this day is going to come
soon.

As soon as my FULL backup requires 2 tapes, I will have to begin weekly
rotations of tapes in my changer rather than just leaving them all in
all of the time.

At that point, Bacula will have to figure out which tapes are where in
the changer.

I have manually run 'update slots' in bconsole but I am hoping is that
bacula will do this on its own.

Will I have to add some type of 'Run Before' script to force bacula to
update slots say before running the 'FULL' job because that is when the
tapes will be switched in the changer?

Craig

Ok, It seams like the quantifier isn't working.

This works:

RegexDir = "D:/Project/External/[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]_.*"

Any idea why?

Bacula does not have this feature. I would just limit the disk volumes
to a few GB and at the proper time the disk volumes will be reused.

Ah, sorry for my clouded crystal ball. :-)
Well, it's difficult to design a solution for you without knowing
more about your configuration, but generally speaking I see two
possible avenues:

a. Add information to the script command line about the job that ran,
   via Bacula's "character substitution" mechanism, which allows the
   script to determine whether the job went to tape or to disk.
   "%l" [job level] or "%n" [volume name] look promising. The pool
   name would be perfect, but the manual doesn't list a substitution

b. Check the system date within the script to determine whether it's

[Bacula-users] Disk backup: how to delete purged files on disk?

2008-10-20 Thread Kevin Keane
Maybe this is an FAQ, but I didn't find the answer...

I am learning how to use bacula to back up to external hard disks.
Everything works beautifully, but I notice that after a volume is purged
or pruned, it gets status "Recycled" and the actual file on disk stays.
That looks like perfect behavior for a tape backup, but for a hard disk
backup, I would like to be able to completely delete the volume from the
database, and also delete the corresponding file on the hard disk so it
no longer takes up space.

I'm using bacula version 2.4.2

Thanks!

[Bacula-users] Windows fileset - regexdir

2008-10-20 Thread bjoern_busch

Hi,

I've browsed the list now for a while, but I can't really find a solution,
so please excuse me, if there is already an answer and I missed it.

Bacula is running on an Ubuntu machine, one client is a Windows 2003 Server.
Everything works fine, but the one part of the FileSet doesn't get
interpreted as I thought it would be.

The folders that I want to backup look like this:

D:\Project\External\12345_Something
D:\Project\External\12346_Something2
D:\Project\External\12347_Something3
D:\Project\External\12348_Something4

The folders that I want to exclude are the following:

D:\Project\External\1234_Something
D:\Project\External\1233_Something
D:\Project\External\123456_Something

So, assuming that I understood regular expressions and everything correctly,
the include for that should look like this:

Include {
  Options {
signature = MD5
IgnoreCase = yes
Exclude = no
RegexDir = "[0-9]{4}_.*"
  }
  Options {
RegexDir = ".*"
Exclude = yes
  }
  File = "D:/Project/External/"
}

But if I specify it like this, nothing gets backed up. I've tried several
other combinations, like:

RegexDir = "D:/Project/External/[0-9]{4}_.*"
RegexDir = "^[0-9]{4}_.*"

Please help me, I'm really clueless right now. To verify the correct
behavior, I use the estimate command.

Thanks in advance!

You could put

RunScript {
RunsWhen = After
RunsOnClient = no
RunsOnFailure = yes
Command = "/path/to/script %c"
}

into your JobDefs resource so it gets included in all your jobs
automatically. Passing %c (client name) as a parameter allows
you to test for and do slightly different things on certain
clients within your script if necessary. %n (job name) and %e
(job exit status) might be similarly useful.

[Bacula-users] Volume file problems

2008-10-20 Thread Annette Jäkel
Hello,
I have a lot of configured backup jobs on volume files (SLES 10, xfs+lvm
filesystems). Two times one of the jobs was disrupted, because the volume
file status was set to FULL. I dont understand this, because the volume
file has no size limit and the underlying filesystem wasn't full. All other
jobs on the same filesystem run correctly.
Any idea what could go wrong? Would be a backup job disrupted if there is a
communication problem between fd and sd?
Thanks for help,
Annette

I would say it is easy to deal with this, I think :

  RunBeforeJob = "echo \"disable job=Job1\" | /usr/bacula/bin/bconsole"
  RunAfterJob = "echo \"enable Job1\" | /usr/bacula/bin/bconsole"
  RunAfterFailedJob  = "echo \"enable job=Job1\" | /usr/bacula/bin/bconsole"

This in your job should do. I'm just waiting till tomorrow to check if it's
working fine.

I wonder if there's a more general way of doing this than having 1

RunAfterJob doesn't get run if the job fails. If you want to run the
same script regardless of your job's success you can use
RunScript {
RunsWhen = After
RunsOnFailure = yes
Command = "..."
}

Alternatively, you could add a separate RunAfterFailedJob directive
to run a different script in the failure case, and put the enable
command in both of the scripts.

[Bacula-users] Restore Bug?

2008-10-20 Thread Alan Brown

2.4.2-1 (Scott Barninger's RPM, but that shouldn't make any difference)

Using an autochanger.

Restores which only use a single tape are fine.

For multiple tape restores, even thought he tapes are in various slots,
Bacula is insisting on loading all the tapes it wants from the first slot
it uses.

IE: tape A,B,C,D are in slot 1,2,3,4

Bacula loads Tape C from slot 3.

Bacula then wants Tape A, but tries to load it from slot 3 and complains.

If Tape A is manually loaded, Bacula unloads it, loads slot 3 and then
complains.

If Tape A is put in Slot 3 bacula loads it happily.

Repeat for Tapes B and D.

Can anyone else verify?

My way around that is adding the directive:

  RunAfterJob  = "/usr/local/bin/bacula-eject"

to the (last) backup job, where /usr/local/bin/bacula-eject is the
script:

8<8<8<8<8<8<
#!/bin/sh

# eject the tape from a standalone tape drive controlled by Bacula

PATH=/bin:/usr/bin ; export PATH

TAPENAME="LTO1"
TAPEDEV="/dev/nst0"

BCONSOLE="/usr/sbin/bconsole -c /etc/bacula/bconsole.conf"
MT="/usr/bin/mt"

# tell Bacula to release the drive
echo "unmount ${TAPENAME}" | ${BCONSOLE}

# tell the drive to eject the tape
${MT} -f ${TAPEDEV} eject

# tell Bacula to watch the drive for tape insertion
echo "mount ${TAPENAME}" | ${BCONSOLE}

# always signal success
exit 0
8<8<8<8<8<8<

Normally you shouldn't need to change the tape status manually.
Bacula will automatically set it to the appropriate value according
to the pool parameters you set in the director configuration.
If it doesn't, you can probably fix it by adjusting your pool
parameters "Volume Use Duration" and/or "Maximum Volume Jobs".
If after that you still have problems, report them here so we can
discuss whether manually overriding the tape status is an
appropriate solution.

no, used is the state wat you looking for. Retention time begins to run after
volume state is full or used ...

if you set the volume over a pool param to one job per volume bacula sets the
tape automatically to used.

Maximum Volume Jobs = 1
