  any hints would be very appreciated.

 If you include exclude = yes in your Exclude {} block then all Files
 and/or directories selected would be excluded. If you leave out the
 exclude=yes statement then everything will be _included_ (seems weird
 to me since the block is clearly called Exclude...)

 First of all a Exclude {} block accepts only File directives. If you
 want to exclude files and/or directories based on wildcards or regexps
 than you have to put these insind an Options {} block. If you include
 exclude = yes in your Options {} block then all Files and/or
 directories selected would be excluded. If you leave out the
 exclude=yes statement then everything will be _included_

 Following your example the FileSet should look like this:

 FileSet {
   Name = WinxpFull
   Enable VSS = yes
   Include {
   Options {
   wilddir = c:/windows/temp/*
   wilddir = *temporary internet files*
   wildfile = *pagefile.sys
   wildfile = *.log
   wildfile = *system32/perflib*.dat
   exclude = yes
   }
   Options {
   signature = SHA1
   compression=GZIP
   ignore case = yes
   }

   File = c:/
   File = d:/
   }

   Exclude {
   File = c:/temp
   File = d:/temp
   }
 }

 Note that if you put something inside an Exclude {} block it will be
 completely ignored (the whole directory). If you have to restore your
 system then there will be no temp dir on you disks.

thanky you very much. i think i got it now. its been a little
confusing at the start but makes some sense now.

 gerald

[Bacula-users] Strange backup errors on Windows 2003, 2.4.4 fd, 2.4.3 director

2009-03-11 Thread Foo
Hi,

on one W2K3 machine (same settings as a bunch of others without problems),
I started getting some strange errors. The job report says Backup OK with
warnings (which is expected), the Windows console tray reports 'Error' for
all jobs, even after restart of the bacula-fd service and a rerun of the
job which now reports Backup OK in bconsole.

The job also does D:, so I do get some files backed up for the second day.
The eventlog doesn't show anything bacula related, I haven't tried
rebooting the server yet. Is the server on the fritz? What could cause
these errors?

So the volume only has 7 volume files (markers/chunks). You could add
-d 100 or 200 to the daemon options in the bacula-fd start script on
the client where the verify is running and redirect the output to a
file.

Debian:

/etc/init.d/bacula-fd

ARGS=-c /etc/bacula/bacula-fd.conf -d100
...
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --pidfile $PIDFILE \
--exec $DAEMON -- $ARGS /var/log/bacula/bacula-fd.dbg

/etc/init.d/bacula-fd restart

Maybe you also need debugging on dir and sd.

For me it doesn't matter how many times I try to reload the edit page of a

When i run backup jobs happens the same problem... Works perfect behind

Some suggestion?

I'm using Bacula Ver: 2.4.4 (28 December 2008) over debian 5.0 (Lenny)

I have mtx-changer modified for the wait_for_drive to time out after 25
minutes. And, yes sometimes it does take a long time to load a tape.
I'll have to ping Mark Nienberg and see if hes discovered anything since
he last reported it. Although in his case, a second mount was successful.

 I asked that because I remember a discussion on list list about
 problems with vxa drives that during the load they can spend some very
 long time recalibrating the tape (or something like that) and if
 bacula read during this time it would have a read error on the first
 block.

A second mount almost always works for me. But I have seen the second mount
fail and
then a third mount work. So if your problem is the same as mine, then the
issue is
not that the tape loses its label, it is that the drive doesn't successfully
load the
tape sometimes.

I have modified the mtx-changer script so it loads a tape and then tries to
read the
label with btape. If it fails, then it unloads and reloads and tries again.
If it
fails again, then a third attempt is made before giving up. In theory, this
reduces
a 20% failure rate to .20 x .20 x .20 = .008 or 99.2% success.

The 20% failure rate is a guess. I haven't actually counted my successes and
failures, but if anything I suspect it fails even more often than 20%.

[Bacula-users] bacula not use all bandwidth of network

2009-03-11 Thread Victor Hugo dos Santos
Hello,

I have this network topology:
- ~ 40 servers/clients
- 1 director
- 2 storages
- all servers connect in Gigabits switches and GB network cards too. :-)
- all baculas (director and sotrages) and all linux servers connect
with 2 network card in bonding mode 6

well.. my problem is that jobs, don't exceed more that 1500 KB/s !!! :-(
this is a report, with 20 faster jobs of today.

9.2 KB/s
10.6 KB/s
16.2 KB/s
53.9 KB/s
72.2 KB/s
98.2 KB/s
311.3 KB/s
380.5 KB/s
521.6 KB/s

1409.5 KB/s
1419.9 KB/s
1446.9 KB/s
1462.8 KB/s
8597.6 KB/s

ridiculously, the last job in the list (the fastest).. is my own
machine.. a PC connected in 100MB switch !!! :-(
testing performance between clients and bacula servers (with rsync,
scp, nc) ... the worst result is 40 MB/s

ideas ?? commentaries ??

thanks

Bacula does much more than what rsync etc do. Bacula also updates the
Catalog database, for example. That is the usual bottleneck.

Note: I believe that the bandwidth you are looking at is 'data
transfered' / 'time for job'. The time for a job is longer than that
taken to transfer the data. Thus, the bandwidth used will ALWAYS be
less than the practical maxiumu.

This is expected for incremental backups because the hard drive spends
most of the time thrashing finding the files to backup. However in
most cases even with the low data rate this is much faster than
running a full backup with a much higher backup rate.
