[Bacula-users] Bacula 5.0.3 doesn't restore client wndows xp on usb disk.
Hi, It's a new day for me ... Pieter: The files (directory structure) appeared in C:mntbackupbaculairriscristal2-restores That's true and it was front of my eyes and I've never seen this directory at the root of windows while I erase the history in the working directory for my test ... Jeremy Maes: My experience with bacula is that if it says it has restored the files but you can't find them It was really the case ! Konstantin Khomoutov: If yes, this is wrong and you're missing an important idea about how restoring works: when Bacula is told to restore one or more files, the job not only specifies the fileset and the directory to restore, but the *target* file daemon, and the directory to restore designates a place on the *target* file daemon not on your director, your SD or whatever. I think I missed this important works of the file daemon that is do all operations related to files ... and also it is more logical to restore to the client ( to the system where it must be replaced files). The "mod" option, I did not test, allows a great flexibility to redirect to any file daemon, among other things ... I think I did well to write here ! Thank's a lot for this great help ! If your incremental is using the previous incremental as a baseline even though it is scheduled after the full, it is probably because it is kicking off before the full finishes and thus cannot use it as a baseline. If you limit the number of simultaneous jobs to 1, then the full will finish before the incremental and will be used as the baseline. There are a number of ways to limit the number of jobs running or writing to a given storage resource. Use the one that best fits your environment and you should be good to go. Please read the manual. All of this is in there including examples. http://bacula.org/en/?page=documentation For you to backup more than the director machine you need to use an external ip address instead of localhost or 127.0.0.1 for the SD resource. Go to [1] and start with the "Bacula Components or Services" section. After you understood how the Bacula components interact with each other, move on to the configuration topics in that same manual. In fact, reading this manual should have been the first step to carry out, not installing the software. Basically, the idea is that each pair of Bacula components which need to interact between each other share a secret (a password) which is unique for each pair, and each host in such a pair needs to know the hostname or IP address and port of its peer. > Other doubt that I have, is there any possility of make a backup if > the baculas server is not directly attach to the same datacenter that > the client or there is any ip option? I'm not sure I parsed this correctly but as long as the Bacula components which have to interact with each other have physical TCP connectivity, there should no problems for them to interact provided you configured them correctly. 1. http://www.bacula.org/5.0.x-manuals/en/main/main/index.html -- Special Offer -- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE! But since in the "backup_folder_after_backup_and_restore_job" snippet you showed an empty "/mnt/backup/bacula/irris/cristal2-restores" folder you supposedly wanted the restored files to appear there. If yes, this is wrong and you're missing an important idea about how restoring works: when Bacula is told to restore one or more files, the job not only specifies the fileset and the directory to restore, but the *target* file daemon, and the directory to restore designates a place on the *target* file daemon not on your director, your SD or whatever. In the "restore_job_by_bconsole" snippet you can clearly see what is the restore client for the job -- at line 75, and this is your Windows FD. The "where" path gets interpreted relative to that machine's %systemdrive% (as Pieter (NL) already showed you). Hence if you want to restore some files from that client's backup somewhere *not* on that client itself, specify the "Restore client" to be another FD (but this has to be FD). It worth repeating that the "Where" parameter of the restore job is interpreted relative to the target FD. You can change any parameter of a restore job about to be run by selecting "mod" instead of "yes" (see line 81). -- Special Offer -- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE! [Bacula-users] Schedules, Full runs and incremental runs
Hello Bacula-List, I've got a little problem with the understanding of schedules. I want Bacula to do a full backup once a month on specific dates, which is the monday followed on the last friday of a month, during normal week-days I want to have an incremental run. Schedule { # optional Name = vm-backup-incremental_schedule# required Run = Full jan 31 at 1:00 Run = Full feb 28 at 1:00 Run = Full mar 28 at 1:00 Run = Full may 02 at 1:00 Run = Full may 30 at 1:00 Run = Full jun 27 at 1:00 Run = Full aug 01 at 1:00 Run = Full aug 29 at 1:00 Run = Full oct 02 at 1:00 Run = Full oct 30 at 1:00 Run = Full nov 27 at 1:00 Run = Full jan 01 at 1:00 Run = Incremental mon-fri at 2:00 } The problem is, that I have a full run and an incremental run scheduled on the same day, at 1:00 and 2:00 and the incremental run at 2:00 is not an increment of the 1:00 full backup, but an increment of the last incremental backup preceding the full backup. On the friday before the full tape backup with bacula, I run a VMware full backup which produces several big files, so I have a lot of new data (~1TB) which is now backuped twice with bacula, once with the full backup and once with the incremental backup. I could run the full backup one day before on sunday, but I cannot be sure that it'll be finished before the incremental backup on monday. So how can I achieve that the incremental run is an increment of the full backup and not of the last incremental run? regards, Christoph Weber -- Special Offer -- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE! By default a restore will always run to the client where the backup was take, so in this case as your bconsole restore logs say: /Restore Client: vm-lespointus-fd/ If you want to restore to your linux machine itself you'll have to mod the job to restore to the bacula FD on your linux box.
