FWIW: It does remember me on SCSI cable termination problems.

I would check and double check the cables and especially the terminators.

When I log in into the web interface I see 8 usable slots. This is
where I told the changer that my former cleaning slot number 8 is no
longer a cleaning slot. On the Status-page I see the two magazines
with 4 tapes each. There is no cleaning slot defined, i.e. I set the
cleaning slot to 0 which is what the manual suggests.

I did a firmware upgrade hoping that this will fix my problem. I
encountered something strange as the following command (/dev/sg4 is
the changer) gives two different outputs:

boromir ~/tdtool # mtx -f /dev/sg4 status
RequestSense (0x03) failed
mtx: Request Sense: Long Report=yes
mtx: Request Sense: Valid Residual=no
mtx: Request Sense: Error Code=70 (Current)

   Storage Element 7:Full :VolumeTag=WOC1-01L4
   Storage Element 8:Full :VolumeTag=WOC1-02L4

boromir ~/tdtool # mtx -f /dev/sg4 status
   Storage Changer /dev/sg4:1 Drives, 7 Slots ( 0 Import/Export )
Data Transfer Element 0:Full (Storage Element 3 Loaded):VolumeTag = WOC4-03L4
   Storage Element 1:Full :VolumeTag=WOC4-01L4

   Storage Element 6:Full :VolumeTag=WOC5-03L4

The two commands were issued directly one after another because I
worried about the first responses of the changer (RequestSense (0x03)
failed ...).

I already posted the output before. It looks like this:

boromir /etc/bacula/scripts # mtx -f /dev/sg4 status
Storage Changer /dev/sg4:1 Drives, 7 Slots ( 0 Import/Export )
Data Transfer Element 0:Empty
Storage Element 1:Full :VolumeTag=WOC4-01L4
Storage Element 2:Full :VolumeTag=WOC4-02L4
Storage Element 3:Full :VolumeTag=WOC4-03L4
Storage Element 4:Full :VolumeTag=WOC5-01L4
Storage Element 5:Full :VolumeTag=WOC5-02L4
Storage Element 6:Full :VolumeTag=WOC5-03L4
Storage Element 7:Full :VolumeTag=WOC1-01L4

It shows only 7 slots.

With compressed tapes (DLT, LTO ...) there is no fixed max capacity.
The drive writes until the entire tape is used with varying
compression rates depending on your data.

However if you use /dev/st0 instead of /dev/nst0 yes with that it is
possible the drive was rewound and then overwritten.

very big data) exceeds of max capacity storage of tape and rewind tape
and next rewrite the start of tape erased Bacula-label?. Thanks.

The remote host looks fishy.

Shouldn't be needed. its in the btools dir and can be build using
client-only config.

You can always try 5.2.6 to see if its something recent or that its
something older. But without a real backtrace e.g. including a
debugger like gdb its kind of useless as you cannot see what is
going wrong.

No joy with that; failed to compile at all.

And -d100 shows that 5.2.9 ia binding to the correct address and port,
but dying with a SEGV as soon as it gets the connection handshake request.

spikyfishthing:root:/opt/bacula-5.2.9/etc:24 #

Bacula interrupted by signal 11: Segmentation violation
Kaboom! bacula-fd, spikyfishthing-fd got signal 11 - Segmentation
violation. Attempting traceback.
Kaboom! exepath=/opt/bacula-5.2.9/etc

/opt/bacula-5.2.9/etc/btraceback[47]: /opt/bacula-5.2.9/sbin/bsmtp: not

Looks like to get bsmtp I have to build the director, which means I have
to install and select a DB, etc, etc, which I don't really want to do
since this machine is a firewall and shouldn't have anything unnecessary
installed.

You don't set them. The library tells you. Or rather, mtx let's you
know that the hardware thinks it had.

Keep in mind that mtx-changer is a shell script provided as a
convenient interface to mtx.

Background: http://www.freebsddiary.org/tape-library.php documents my
customization of mtx-changer.

Make sure you have the latest and greatest mtx.

I would start by debugging the output of this script. Look for these
lines:

list)
debug "Doing mtx -f $ctl -- to list volumes"

You'll see it's doing this command:

NOTE: /dev/pass11 is my tape changer (i.e. the library).

I'm using FreeBSD 8.2 here...

$ mtx -f /dev/pass11 status
   Storage Changer /dev/pass11:1 Drives, 10 Slots ( 0 Import/Export )
Data Transfer Element 0:Full (Storage Element 2 Loaded):VolumeTag =
ETU067
   Storage Element 1:Full :VolumeTag=ETU066
   Storage Element 2:Empty
   Storage Element 3:Full :VolumeTag=ETU068
   Storage Element 4:Full :VolumeTag=ETU069
   Storage Element 5:Full :VolumeTag=ETU064
   Storage Element 6:Full :VolumeTag=ETU070
   Storage Element 7:Full :VolumeTag=ETU078
   Storage Element 8:Full :VolumeTag=ETU044
   Storage Element 9:Full :VolumeTag=ETU045
   Storage Element 10:Full :VolumeTag=ETU075

Element 0 is the tape drive.

Start with that... show us your output.

This machine does have four interfaces, and should only be listening on
one of them.

As long as it says 7 slots here (e.g. that is what the changer reports
on the SCSI level) Bacula is not going to see any more.

Its something set in the changer.

Check the tandberg web interface (guess the small 1u also has one)
my 24 slots has one at least.

Go to the Configure/Cleaning menu and make sure Fixed Cleaning Slot Enabled:
is disabled and auto clean on is grayed out.

You can also look at the front menu and do

Maint
Cleaning Options
Fixed Cleaning Slot

Should show something like Fixed Cleaning Slot x: Disabled.

Just change the 12 to 14 in the php file works ok afterwards. As it seems
there is no updated version for 5.2.x Bacula

Have it running myself like that no problem so far.

5.2.7 added support for getaddrinfo and as it seems that finds
a lot more addresses then good old gethostbyname.

You might be bitten by

http://bugs.bacula.org/view.php?id=1897

which states ipv6 but is a problem that getaddrinfo finds multiple the
same addresses for your host and as such all daemons try to listen
multiple times on the same port. Which of course is kind of lame.

Simple test is to change the config.h autogenerated by configure and
change the HAVE_GET_ADDRINFO to undefined and then get the old gethostbyname.

Or wait for a patch that I'm working on.

What is kind of interesting is running any daemon with -d 100 to see
what addresses it want to bind to.

It could also bee something else then a bug report should be made
with some debugging info.

Have you tried upgrading your kernel + mtx possibly by booting from a
recent livecd. Although I am not sure what if any livecds would come
standard with mtx installed.

[Bacula-users] Reportula or bweb or webacula do not work anymore (Ubuntu 12.04)

2012-06-25 Thread Oliver Hoffmann
Hi list,

after upgrading from 11.04 to 12.04 bweb and webacula do not work
anymore. Thus I tried reportula.

bweb:

Can't locate Bweb.pm in @INC (@INC
contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.14.2 /usr/local/share/perl/5.14.2
/usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.14 /usr/share/perl/5.14
/usr/local/lib/site_perl .)
at /usr/lib/cgi-bin/bweb.pl line 41. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted
at /usr/lib/cgi-bin/bweb.pl line 41.

webacula:

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Exception' with message
'Version error for Catalog database (wanted 12, got 14) '
in /var/www/webacula/html/index.php:183 Stack trace: #0 {main}
thrown in /var/www/webacula/html/index.php on line 183

reportula:

A Database Error Occurred
Error Number: 1146
Table 'bacula.job' doesn't exist
SELECT `job`.`level`, `job`.`jobfiles`, `job`.`jobbytes`,
`job`.`jobstatus` FROM (`job`) WHERE `endtime` <= '2012-06-25' AND
`starttime` >= '2012-06-24'
Filename: /var/www/reportula/models/database_model.php
Line Number: 326

It would be all right if at least one would work. For reportula I put
"lower_case_table_names=2" in my.cnf. No success.

Thanks for hints!

Greetings,

Oliver

I have to pull out the whole magazine to change a tape so I don't have

What do you mean by a mail slot? I have some more output, maybe that
helps anybody?

boromir /etc/bacula/scripts # mtx -f /dev/sg4 status
   Storage Changer /dev/sg4:1 Drives, 7 Slots ( 0 Import/Export )

   Storage Element 6:Full :VolumeTag=WOC5-03L4
   Storage Element 7:Full :VolumeTag=WOC1-01L4

There is this "Data Transfer Element" which is empty. Is that maybe my
"lost" slot?

[Bacula-users] Anyone else encountering connection problems with bacula-5.2.9 fd on OpenBSD?

2012-06-25 Thread Phil Stracchino
I have an OpenBSD 4.6 client upon which the Bacula 5.0.3 client works
perfectly, and has worked perfectly since 5.0.3. I've just upgraded my
servers from 5.2.6 to 5.2.9, and realized I hadn't updated the OpenBSD
client in a while. So I went and updated it to 5.2.9, only to find that
nothing can connect to the 5.2.9 client. It starts, it listens on port
9102, but all connection attempts fail. It's not a password problem, I
haven't changed the config file at all. I tried both static and dynamic
builds, and got the exact same behavior.

Is anyone else encountering similar problems on OpenBSD 4.6 or versions
in that general range?

I believe the problem is with mtx and probably how it handles your

Until last week I defined a slot in the autochanger as a "Cleaning
Slot" so that I had 7 slots that could be used for backup-tapes. Then
I decided to clean the drive manually because I read that cleaning the
drive is actually not necessary. I could better use the slot for
another backup tape.

So I redefined the former cleaning-slot to an ordinary slot in the
Tandberg autochanger. That was successfull because the front panel
indicated the cleaning-slot with a "C" which was gone and replaced by
an "8" (I defined the tape in slot 8 to be the cleaning tape).

After that I started bconsole and issued an "update slots" command.
The output looks like this:

boromir /etc/bacula/scripts # bconsole
Connecting to Director boromir.dmz:9101
1000 OK: boromir-dir Version: 5.0.2 (28 April 2010)
Enter a period to cancel a command.
*update slots
Automatically selected Catalog: MyCatalog
Using Catalog "MyCatalog"
The defined Storage resources are:
  1: boromir-sd-100
  2: boromir-sd-1000
Select Storage resource (1-2): 2
Connecting to Storage daemon boromir-sd-1000 at 10.0.0.1:9103 ...
3306 Issuing autochanger "slots" command.
Device "Tandberg" has 7 slots.
Connecting to Storage daemon boromir-sd-1000 at 10.0.0.1:9103 ...
3306 Issuing autochanger "list" command.
Catalog record for Volume "WOC4-01L4" updated to reference slot 1.
Catalog record for Volume "WOC4-02L4" updated to reference slot 2.
Catalog record for Volume "WOC4-03L4" updated to reference slot 3.
Catalog record for Volume "WOC5-01L4" updated to reference slot 4.
Catalog record for Volume "WOC5-02L4" updated to reference slot 5.
Catalog record for Volume "WOC5-03L4" updated to reference slot 6.
Catalog record for Volume "WOC1-01L4" updated to reference slot 7.
*

The strange line is the one that reads "Device "Tandberg" has 7
slots." because there are actually 8 slots.

I reset the Tandberg autochanger to the default settings and rebooted
both the changer and the computer that it is attached to. There was no
change regarding the "update slots" command.

The I tried to get the number of slots via:

boromir /etc/bacula/scripts # ./mtx-changer /dev/sg4 slots
7

So, there are the 7 slots again.

After some investigation I think it is not necessarily a problem with
bacula but could be a problem with the OS itself. But nevertheless I
hope you can help me on the issue. I can post config files as you
need, please tell me what you need.

Does anyone of you know where I can set the number of slots or where
the number of slots is set by the OS?

Thanks for your help

[Bacula-users] Backup Full on NAS

2012-06-25 Thread Rodolphe

Hello,

1- Sorry for my english and Google translation...

Being
new to Bacula, I question the usefulness of having full backups every
week, knowing that I use a NAS and not tapes to store my volumes.

For a
complete restore of a server, it is true that many volumes may be
concerned, but is it annoying that it comes from a NAS ... Forced to
change the tape does not exist ...

My question also just because I come
from the TSM, which is defaulted to that of the incremental ...

For
information, I use webacula for restoration, which allows the creation
of restore job on the fly ...

What do you think?

Thanking you for your
opinion

[Bacula-users] Copy jobs

2012-06-25 Thread Uwe Schuerkamp
Hi folks,

I've been running copy jobs for a couple of months now and I'm
wondering why they vary so much in speed. Sometimes they zoom along
just fine around 60MB / sec, at other times transfer rates never go
beyond 5MB / sec. Only one copy job is running at a time.

We're copying from a disk based online volume to an lto5 tape drive
with 24x changer (HP), the server doesn't do anything besides backup
(120 clients). During copy jobs, no other jobs are running.

Maybe I'm mistaken about copy jobs, but isn't this just a "simple"
byte-by-byte copy? Anything else going on behind the scenes that I'm
unaware of?

All the best,

Uwe

Bacula 5.2.6 compiled from source on centos6 64bit btw ;)
