By definition, /usr/local (or, more standards-like, opt/local) is yours,
no-one else knows what is in it, and whether it should be included.

Frex, I have squid installed in /opt/local on one machine, and for that
I could exlude /opt/local/squid/var, as there are only the squid cache,
log, and run directories there.

As for /var - you'll have to have a look at yours, as, again, some
important libraries and configuration files can end up there, as well as
cache files and logs.

There is no really complete list, as no two machines are identical
(except if they are in a cluster!! ;-) ).

Now, having said all of that, with LTO-6 tapes and an 8-slot autoloader,
I just whack in the sensible top level mount points, exclude /tmp,
/proc, /opt/bacula, and any other obvious things to avoid, and wear the
minuscule overhead of storing logs and cache files and other dross.

Cheers,

Re: [Bacula-users] cant start bacula-fd on windows 7, interactive service

2016-02-03 Thread Kern Sibbald
Hello,

Note, Microsoft, for security reasons, does not allow SYSTEM services to
interact with the desktop, so Bacula can nolonger (since Windows XP)
support any such feature. Non-administrators are not allowed (Microsoft
restriction) to start or stop Bacula.

Also, please note that installing Bacula via RDP always seems to create
problems -- probably because Microsoft restricts RDP permissions even as
administrator, so to install Bacula, you must be running directly on the
machine as administrator.

Best regards,
Kern

[Bacula-users] Bacula Status Report -- 4 February 2016

2016-02-03 Thread Kern Sibbald
Hello,

I would like to discuss the following topics:

1. Bacula Release Status

2. Next Release

3. Vacation

1. Bacula Release Status
As probably know, the latest release of Bacula version 7.4.0 was
released on 16 January 2016. This will be a quite stable release because
it is based on version 7.2.0 (very stable) plus a few Enterprise bug
fixes and features, which are well tested. As always the new code has
been very well tested on Linux, but there could be a few minor problems
on other OS versions such as Solaris.

2. Next Version

I expect that the next Bacula community version will be released in
October or November, and as usual, it will have a number of backports
from the Enterprise version as well as some new features that have been
submitted (see bacula-devel list and bug reports) thanks to devoted
community developers :-). There are also some new features that I have
been working on and others I have planned.

This next Bacula version will be more significant than the 7.4.0
release, if only because one of the submissions that was held back in
the 7.4.0 release requires a database upgrade. In addition, if all works
out as I plan, there will be a number of other nice new features.
Finally I hope to finally fix some of the outstanding bug reports that
are annoying to users, but have been on hold since it takes a large
amount of time to duplicate those particular problems.

3. Vacation
You may recall that last year I was away on vacation several months.
Because Bacula Systems is doing very well with the means to hire new
programmers, that permits me to do two things:

1. Take more vacation time -- this time in Australia, Bali,
Micronesia, and Japan.

2. Be able to consistently devote far more time to developing
features important for the community version, which I have been doing
since December of last year and will continue to do indefinitely.

When I have Internet and time, I will monitor the Bacula status and
respond in case of a serious problem, while in my absence Eric
Bollengier will be ensuring that the bacula.org site continues to
function (it has been the target of several DoS attacks since the 7.4.0
release).

Thanks for using Bacula -- be happy.

Kern

On a Centos 6.7 system of mine, I believe I have to install the
tcp_wrappers-devel package, plus add the option " --with-tcp-wrappers" to get
that feature to enable. Im sure there must be a similar package for TLS.

Re: [Bacula-users] cant start bacula-fd on windows 7, interactive service

2016-02-03 Thread Martin Feldbacher
hi,

I've a samba3 domain running, and I've full administrator rights on the windows
7 pc, I can start the UI0Detect without problems, but not the bacula service.

if I run the command "C:\Program Files\Bacula\bacula-fd.exe" /service -c
"C:\Program Files\Bacula\bacula-fd.conf" with a administrator cmd, I don't get
any error, but the in services.msc the service is not running and port 9103 (or
9102) is not open (netstat -an)

2016-02-03 Thread Hector Javier Agudelo Corredor
hi

lready had installed the version openssl

OpenSSL> versión
de OpenSSL 1.0.1e-fips 11 de febrero 2013

again run ./configure --with-mysql --with-openssl but the summary leaves me
again:

TCP Wrappers support: no
TLS support: no

It validates when openssl tells me no

checking varargs.h presence... no
checking for varargs.h... no
checking for socket... yes
using libc's socket
checking for OpenSSL... no
checking for library containing dlopen... (cached) -ldl
checking for PostgreSQL support... no
checking for MySQL support... yes

I change the following parameter in the file configure, before support tls
and crypto had no, i change for yes. but neither changes to the file set
change status check

support_smartalloc=yes
support_readline=yes
support_lzo=yes
support_conio=yes
support_bat=no
support_tls=yes
support_crypto=yes
support_static_tools=no
support_static_fd=no

support_static_cons=no
build_client_only=no
build_dird=yes
build_stored=yes
db_backends=""
batch_insert_db_backends=""
support_lockmgr=no

what i can do?

Hello Hector,

You can run ./configure --with-openssl (and all your previously options) for
enabling SSL support (then make and make install). This will not modify or
delete your conf files and catalog database.

[Bacula-users] cant start bacula-fd on windows 7, interactive service

2016-02-03 Thread Martin Feldbacher
Hi,

I've installed bacula-fd 5.2.6 on a windows 7 32-bit system. installation was
completed successfully but I'm not able to start the "bacula file backup
service".
in the eventlog of windows, I got the following message:

The Bacula File Service service is marked as an interactive service. However,
the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may
not work correctly.

Event ID: 7030

so I checked if the UI0Detect service is running, and it wasn't, so i started
it.
but if I try to start the bacula service, I still get the same error message.

I've tried the same on another system, which is not within a domain, there it
worked without problems.
can this be the reason?

best regards
martin

Could you please give us more information, such as your backup window per
client? It will depende a lot of your backup window and the free bandwidth
you need for other applications.

[Bacula-users] Maximum Bandwidth Per Job Question

2016-02-03 Thread Randy Katz
Hi,

I am having the issue that servers that have multiple KVM VM's that are
being backed up
are throttling the servers resources and bringing it to a crawl. I tried
staggering the Schedule
times which resulted in the server being throttled for a shorter amount
of time. I don't like
my servers to be throttled, mainly because they need to serve!

Is anyone using Maximum Bandwidth Per Job in this capacity and what
bandwidth setting
have you found to be optimal, and if you know why that would be most
appreciated, thanks!
