Hi Dan,

i'm on the pfsense list too and i got it running by doing the following
steps (everythings installed via webui, a reboot kills the
functionality, so i assume its init script failures).

https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=85265.0

i basically followed this howto, the db dir was already there (i
upgraded pfsense to 2.2).

i copy & pasted my config to
/usr/pbi/bacula-amd64/local/etc/bacula-fd.conf, make sure no bacula is
running and run it manually with the following command:

/usr/local/sbin/bacula-fd -u root -g wheel -v -c
/usr/pbi/bacula-amd64/local/etc/bacula-fd.conf

since then it works until i reboot.

cheers

Hi,

i personally would backup to one volume (depends on the size of all clients)

Also no autochanger is needed. If you specify the volumes / sd's you
would be fine. imho.

Re: [Bacula-users] scheduling copy jobs for offsite backups

2014-08-26 Thread J. Echter
Hi,

it's me again :)

If i schedule the copy jobs, searching for the copy jobs is done at the
scheduled time, the rest of the job is done when its priority is reached.

as you can see here:

25-Aug 20:00 bacula-dir JobId 5415: Regex pattern matched no Jobs to copy.
25-Aug 20:00 bacula-dir JobId 5415: No JobIds found to copy.
25-Aug 23:23 bacula-dir JobId 5415: shell command: run BeforeJob
"/etc/bacula/holiday.sh"
25-Aug 23:23 bacula-dir JobId 5415: BeforeJob: Date is not a known vacation day.

any workaround?

i could add a echo 'run bacula-full yes' | bconsole or similar to my run after
job directive.

any input is welcome :)

I'm just suspicious about the Next Pool directive. I've always worked

the Schedule resource and maybe is why you are facing problems with
the scheduled jobs.

Cheers.

Hi,

http://www.bacula.org/7.0.x-manuals/en/main/New_Features_in_7_0_0.html

tells me:

In addition to being permitted in the Job resource, the *nextpool=xxx*
specification can be specified as a run override in the *run* directive
of a Schedule resource. Any *nextpool* specification in a *run*
directive will override any other specification in either the Job or the
Pool.

I use this as we change usb disk daily.

Can you tell what Selection Type and Pattern are you using?

If i schedule the copy jobs (lower priority than the normal jobs) it
doesn't find any usable job to copy.

Can you show how your Copy job is configured and what is the priority
of the other jobs?

Level Type Pri Scheduled Job Name Volume

IncrementalBackup 2  21-Aug-14 20:00opsi file-0459

  Run = Pool=Vfull NextPool=Freitag on fri at 20:00
  Run = Pool=Vfull NextPool=Samstag on sat at 20:00
}

these are the jobdefs:

JobDefs {
  Name = USB
  Schedule = USB
  Type = Copy
  Level = Full
  Messages = Standard
  Pool = File
  Prune Jobs = Yes
  Prune Files = Yes
  Prune Volumes = Yes
  Accurate = yes
  Selection Type = Client
  Storage = USB
  RunBeforeJob = /etc/bacula/holiday.sh
  Write Bootstrap = "/BACKUP/bootstrap/usb-%n.bsr"
}

and this is a copy job:

Job {
  Name = "opsi-USB"
  JobDefs = USB
  Client = opsi-fd
  FileSet = "opsi"
  Selection Pattern = opsi-fd
}

Hi,

we use a run before script which checks if its a holiday or not on our
tape jobs.

If it is holiday it cancels the job. Only harddrive jobs run at this time.

Sorry if i couldn't clarify your question.

Cheers.

my bacula dameons are running with those uid/gid:

any reason why i get those permission denied errors?

im lost atm.

thanks

Re: [Bacula-users] Hint: Include Confs

Hi Everyone...

I'm reading a book about Bacula and I found a hint that could be very
useful to many users here.

Instead you declare all your resources inside the same .conf
(bacula-dir.conf) you might separate them on many files. So, you just
need declare them in your bacula-dir.conf like this way:

@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-catalogs.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-messages.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-clients.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-consoles.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-pools.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-filesets.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-schedules.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-jobs.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-storages.conf

This allow a better organization of your confs.

That's it Man!

I hope that this be useful to someone... :)

[Bacula-users] Compaq SCSI tape drive, doesn't work as expected.

2011-07-19 Thread J. Echter
Hi,

i have a Compaq SCSI Tape on a Adaptec AIC-7892A SCSI controller.

If i issue a mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind the command quits without a message,
mt -f /dev/nst0 weof does the same.

Now my problem, if i hit mt -f /dev/nst0 eject, the drive gets stuck,
and the led's are flashing.

lsscsi tells me:

[12:0:6:0]   tapeCOMPAQ   SDT-11.16  /dev/st0

system is a ubuntu 10.04 lts server x64.

what's wrong, is my drive faulty?

cheers

I have one storage device configured for my tape library on bacula-sd,

Am i wrong?

It is possible to configure the drives separately in bacula-sd to have
two storage devices and then i can run multiple jobs on multiple pools?

Thx & Rgds.

files slow down.

backup speed has nothing to do with regular backup speed.

Hi,

you could you maximum volumes in pool definition combined with max
volume bytes you can tell the pool how big it can grow.

Have a look at the pool resource to check out what fits best for you.

Hi,

you could use Priorities.

Full Backup Priority = 1
Incremental Priority = 2

Priority 2 will always wait for Priority 1 Jobs to finish.

Have a look at the Job Resource.

performance was ok, so this is no problem. if i backup the nfs server
(buffalo terastation), i would need to setup a backup there first and
backup these files with bacula. if possible i want to avoid this scenario.

[Bacula-users] problem with nfs mounted shares --> the following files are in the catalog but not on the volume

2011-05-06 Thread J. Echter
Hi,

i have a fileset containing nfs mounted shares, but these seem to not get
backed up.

my fileset resource looks like this:

FileSet {
   Name = "Bacula"
   Include {
 Options {
   signature=SHA1
   verify = pins1
   compression = GZIP
   recurse = yes
   sparse = yes
   check file changes = yes
   ignore case = no
 }
 File = /
 File = /mnt/terastation/share
 Exclude Dir Containing = "excludemefrombackup.txt"
   }
 Exclude {
 File = "/mnt/terastation/share/trashbox"
  }
}

/mnt/terstation/share is mentioned to be *not* on the volume. are there any
problems if i include / in my fileset?

imho it works as expected, doesnt backup files in /dev /var/run and so on.
that's why the nfs shares are listed separately.

greetings

juergen.

Hi everybody.

To backup our Linux CRM systems I want to distinguish

between the backup

of the code files and the database and so I have defined two jobs for each

client.

I did it because the database will be a full backup every day but the
backup of the code files is a full backup once a week

and an incremental backup during weekdays.

Does exist a way to define a master job which contains these both jobs
in one job run

or must I schedule both jobs individual each day per client?

If so I will define two master jobs. One with the database Backup and
the full backup of the code files

and a second one with the database backup and the incremental backup
for the code files.

The goal is to have one backup job a day which contains all the backup
jobs of a system

in one run.

in JobDefs you put your eseential config for jobs, in the jobs directive
you set specific options.

jobdefs is imho a good timesaver.

[Bacula-users] migration

2011-04-26 Thread J. Echter
Hi,

i try to achieve the following:

file pool:

full (first backup), daily incremental, differential once a month

merge all of them into a virtual full backup, then migrate the virtual
full into my file pool.

if i try to restore the most recent backup of a client, it only offers
me the backups done before the virtual full.

my question is the following:

is this common behaviour or should the vfull backup be shown as most
recent backup?

cheers juergen

[Bacula-users] running VFull manually fails, looks for file in wrong path

2011-04-26 Thread J. Echter
Hi,

im trying vfull backups.

i created a new pool for this

Pool {
  Name = Vfull
  Pool Type = Backup
  Recycle = yes
  Storage = Vfull
  LabelFormat = vfull-
  Next Pool = File
}

a new device:

Device {
  Name = Vfull
  Device Type = File
  Media Type = File
  Archive Device = "/bacula/archivefiles/vfull"
}

a new storage:

Storage {
  Name = Vfull
  Address = 192.168.1.2
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = "some"
  Device = Vfull
  Media Type = File
}

so i run a full backup on a client, changed some files, did an
incremental, a differential and finally a VFull of this client.

the vfull job tells me to mount volume vfull-0027 in
/bacula/archivefiles (thats the Archive Device for my default pool) but
this one is placed in /bacula/archivefiles/vfull.

what could be wrong?

in bacula faq there is only mentioned one pool for incrementals,

Hi,

Bacula FAQ (
http://www.bacula.org/de/dev-manual/Bacula_Freque_Asked_Questi.html )
tells me:

I get a Connection refused when connecting to my Client

[In connecting to my Client, I get "ERR:Connection Refused. Packet Size
too big from File daemon:192.168.1.4:9102" Why?]This is typically a
communications error resulting from one of the following:

* Old versions of Bacula, usually a Win32 client, where two threads
  were using the same I/O packet. Fixed in more recent versions.
  Please upgrade.
* Some other program such as an HP Printer using the same port (9102
  in this case).

If it is neither of the above, please submit a bug report
at bugs.bacula.org .

Another solution might be to run the daemon with the debug option by:

Start a DOS shell Window.
cd c:\bacula\bin
bacula-fd -d100 -c c:\bacula\bin\bacula-fd.conf

This will cause the FD to write a file *bacula.trace* in the current
directory, which you can examine to determine the problem.

if i comment the DIRPort option, i get:

08-Mar 09:21 bacula-fd: ERROR TERMINATION at parse_conf.c:971
Config error: Keyword "QueryFile" not permitted in this resource.
Perhaps you left the trailing brace off of the previous resource.

   QueryFile = "/etc/bacula/scripts/query.sql"

very annoying since this is a productive machine. :(

Hi,

i've got a question about this.

I do a full backup once a month, every day an incremental and on
saturday an differential.

would you, bacula-users, suggest to do a VirtualFull on sunday?

does this merge all prior backups? means, does this use more disk space
or are the prior backups merged into one full?

maybe i could avoid a full once a month, to save bandwith and disk space?

greetings

juergen.

Hi,

the problem is, i can't do a Full Backup of this. Reason is first tape
would be full.

i do full backups to disk, and also have fulls on the server. so i would
need only the latest file on tape, just to be sure :)

[Bacula-users] how to backup only the latest file of a daily sql backup

2011-02-11 Thread J. Echter
hi guys,

can anybody tell me how to handle this?

what i have:

- a daily backup of a sql db
- the backup files are kept 14 days on the server itself
- i want to backup only the newest file to tape

files are called, for example:

sql_backup_2011_02_07_230003_9327174.bak

the reason for this is, my tapes running out of space... :)

backups are 35 gb, i could save ~30 gb.

machine is a windows 7 x64.

greetings

juergen.

sorry, pool should look like this

Pool {
   Name = Disk1
   Pool Type = Backup
   Recycle = yes
   Auto Prune = yes
   Volume Retention = 6 months
   Storage = Disk1
   LabelFormat = Disk1-
   Volume Use Duration = 1 day
   Action On Purge = Truncate
}

of course you should adjust this settings to your liking.

Max Volume Size = Disk Size for example.

Hi,

you could add a pool for every disk and tell bacula which pool it has to
use on each day. You can tell bacula which pool to use via schedule for
example.

Schedule:

Schedule {
   Name = Disk
   Run = Pool=Disk1 SpoolData=yes on mon at 22:30
   Run = Pool=Disk2 SpoolData=yes on tue at 22:30
   Run = Pool=Disk3 SpoolData=yes on wed at 22:30
   Run = Pool=Disk4 SpoolData=yes on thu at 22:30
   Run = Pool=Disk5 SpoolData=yes on fri at 22:30
   Run = Pool=Disk6 SpoolData=yes on sat at 22:30
}

Pools:

Pool {
   Name = Disk1
   Pool Type = Backup
   Recycle = yes
   Auto Prune = yes
   Volume Retention = 6 months
   Storage = File
   LabelFormat = file-
   Volume Use Duration = 1 day
   Action On Purge = Truncate

2011-01-26 Thread J. Echter
Hi,

im running Ubuntu Lucid Server x64.

I'd like to migrate from bacula-sqlite to bacula-mysql, but i have one
problem. Im not a MySQL expert and i already have one Database running
with MySQL.

Can someone advice how to handle my situation without damaging anything? :)

I would do the following:

1. dump sqlite db
2. remove sqlite parts of bacula
3. install mysql parts of bacula
4. creating db (there im not sure if can break something if i just use
the script from bacula)
5. loading previously dumped tables back to mysql (i dont know how yet)

or would postgresql the better choice?

cheers
