Re: [Bacula-users] Device is BLOCKED waiting for mount of volume -- backups failing (bacula 5.2.2)
[Replying to my own post to clarify that unloading/loading/mounting does NOT solve the issue.] In the message dated: Wed, 30 Nov 2011 17:52:12 EST, The pithy ruminations from mark.berg...@uphs.upenn.edu on <[Bacula-users] Device is BLOCKED waiting for mount of volume -- backups failing (bacula 5 .2.2)> were: => I just upgraded from 5.0.2 to 5.2.2 in the hope that the bug fixes solve a persistent problem th => at we've been having (for previous reports and more details, see [1]). [SNIP!] => => => Unloading the tape from outside bacula (with mtx), then reloading the tape, running "update slot => s", and then "mount" from within bconsole causes bacula to correctly recognize the presence of t => he tape and continue the backup. I posted too soon...that sequence of operations does cause bacula to recognize the presence of the tape (ie., "status stor" gives the correct information), but bacula still does not mount the tape, still asks for the volume (or for a new one to be labeled), and backups do not continue. If I change the status of the volume that bacula is requesting--the tape already in the drive but unmounted--to "disabled", then bacula unloads the tape, selects a different tape, and the backup proceeds. I can then change the volume status to "append" and the tape _will_ be reused in the future. This does not seem to be a problem with the media--I've seen this issue with at least 10 tapes, and later backups will append to those tapes. I'd appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions. Hi, 16.12.2008 03:00, Arch Willingham wrote: > 1. "Have you ever tried mounting the requested tape, or labeling a new one?" > I tried mounting it from within Webmin but it would never mount. I know virtually nothing about webmin's Bacula module beyond the fact that it exists, so I can't help you there. I would recommend you getting used to bconsole, as I believe the webmin module is neither complete nor perfect, and the console programs are the only fully supported ways of working with Bacula. That said, you should start verifying you can run bconsole and connect to your DIR. the command 'sta dir' should gie you some output, and 'quit' closes bconsole. Then, read the console chapter of the manual :-) > I am not very proficient with Bacula and I have yet to figure how to label > one so that it increments on the fly. Can you help? Thank you for your reply. I have recorded the changes in my configuration files. The failure is the same. But it appears only when I try to write on a new (prelabeled) volume. Re: [Bacula-users] Device is BLOCKED waiting for mount of volume "...".
The problem is that your jobs are configured to use the tape drive as the storage as opposed to the loader. The following line in your dir config - Storage = VXA-320 Should be changed to Storage = ExabytePacketloader1Ux10 Also add this line to your sd config in the VXA-320 section- Changer Device = /dev/sg1 You have to tell your jobs to use the Autochanger device instead of the actual tape drive. If you use the actual tape drive then its not aware of the autochanging capabilities of your loader. I hope that makes sense. -Aaron Marius Dorlöchter wrote: > Hello, > > it's my fist post. Re: [Bacula-users] ? Device is BLOCKED waiting for mount of volume
Hi Peter, I could be wrong, but I *think* that is the same problem I experienced when I updated to 2.0.1. Once a job began, my autochanger would not load the tape it needed. My solution was to add three lines of code to the /etc/bacula/mtx-changer file on lines 157-159. I added the following. if mt -f $device status | grep ONLINE >/dev/null 2>&1; then mt -f $device offline fi So now it looks like this from line 153 to 170. # # enable the following line if you need to eject the cartridge # mt -f $device offline # sleep 10 if mt -f $device status | grep ONLINE >/dev/null 2>&1; then mt -f $device offline fi ${MTX} -f $ctl unload $slot $drive ;; load) debug "Doing mtx -f $ctl load $slot $drive" ${MTX} -f $ctl load $slot $drive rtn=$? # # Increase the sleep time if you have a slow device # or remove the sleep and add the following: # wait_for_drive $device Cheers, Dave -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Peter Eisch Sent: Friday, January 26, 2007 1:24 PM To: bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Bacula-users] ? Well, you should tell us which volumes are in the autoloader, show us (examples of) the volume metadata, and tell us what you do when you load or change tapes. What you describe looks like Bacula doesn't know about any volumes in the autochanger, or these are not labeled. Arno > peter > > > - > Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
