Add an option to allow purged volumes to be automatically assigned
to the Scratch pool upon reuse.
Why:
It's often difficult to predict how much media each pool will require
for a backup. The Scratch pool, which allows media to be automatically
assigned to any other pool is an excellent way of dealing with this.
However, as media are purged and recycled, they stay within the pool
to which they were originally assigned. While this has some advantages,
I'd like to see the option to have purged media automatically reassigned
to the Scratch pool, so that (upon reuse) they can be moved to any pool.
Notes:
It would be helpful to set the Assign to Scratch Pool Upon Purge
option individually for each piece of media. This setting could be
recorded in the database or on the media label itself.
For example, if I've got a mix of LTO-2 and LTO-3 tapes in an auto
changer, I may want to assign the LTO-3 tapes to the Full pool, and
have them fixed in that pool.
However, the LTO-2 tapes would begin by being assigned to the Scratch
pool. As they are purged, I'd like them to be re-assigned to the Scratch
pool.
