Susan, I'm sorry I trouble you so much.

This climber says with some dismay,
I must leave this mountain for another day.

RE: puzzled by Jim

2005-05-29 Thread Michael Alcorn
Dear all,
I am glad that Jim has apologised to Susan! The patience and understanding
shown by her is commendable. I note that the group becomes very active when
something confusing comes up so it is positive in an ironic way. I suppose this
helps us all to stop and think about how we interact with others or sometimes
just ignore contraversial issues. Its a fine balance to achieve moderation and
observe love to all.
Thanks to this group I am learning more each day.
Love to all
Mike

Structurization Tech

2005-05-29 Thread Mark A. Foster
I have, once again, substantially revised my Structurization Tech paper. At
some point, I will write a version of the paper which is more accessible to the
general Baha'i public:

If you have any comments on the context of the paper, I would be pleased to
read them.

Dear Mark

This is a great paper.

One thing though that I feel you should elaborate is why is it the case that
***Gradually, as the spirit of faith and faculty of inner vision, both
capacities of the human spirit, are developed, one's conscience, or will, is
uplifted, virtue by virtue, from the world of human imperfection to the
world of human spirituality. (These worlds are only relative and nominal
categories, or structurizations, not eternal essences or ideal forms.)***

The reality of man is not a nominal category or is it?
**Let him then stand and say:
Make my prayer, O my Lord, a fountain of living waters WHEREBY I MAY
LIVE AS LONG AS THY SOVEREIGNTY ENDURETH, and may make mention of Thee in
every world of Thy worlds.
Let him again raise his hands in supplication,
  and say:
O Thou in separation from Whom hearts and souls have melted, and by the
fire of Whose love the whole world hath been set aflame!
(Baha'u'llah: Prayers and Meditations, Page: 318)**

You need to develop what it is that LIVETH and ENDURETH...

But most impressed as usual with your work.

Beautiful green fonts indicating you are a Siyyid :)

RE: Help with Arabic term

2005-05-29 Thread Susan Maneck
In the Ysuf Ali translation of the following Qur'an verse, the word Term
is capitalised. Has anyone an explanation? I am writing for a Christian
newspaper.

Dear Richard,

There are no caps in Arabic so this was an editorial decision. But the word
is ajal which comes from a root meaning delay. So an ajal is an deadline. I
suppose it is capitalized to reinforce the fact that it is *the* deadline,
i.e. the Judgement Day.

warmest, Susan

Hi, Khazeh,

At 05:41 PM 5/29/2005, you wrote:

Thank you very much. For about two years, I have been considering if I could
take these ideas and place them within a nominalist framework, i.e., avoid
making essentialist assumptions.

Unfortunately, I now seem to have drawn the ire of at least one member of the
board of trustees of the Foundation for the Investigation of Reality:

http://investigatereality.org

However, I expected it.

I also had my friend, Jud Evans, who runs the largest nominalist site on the
web, take a look at it. He said that, as best he could tell, I have avoided
realism, Platonism, etc. (He put a short version of it on his site.)

Main page (not just nominalism):

Okay, thanks. I will work on it.

The reality of man is not a nominal category or is it?

I think so. It is a name for beings having the attributes associated with human
souls and spirits.

You need to develop what it is that LIVETH and ENDURETH...

You mean the immortality of the soul?

But most impressed as usual with your work.

Thanks.

lol. Can I claim that as a deduction on my next tax return? ;-)
